not sure, what you try to tell...
    my lists:

Malware Domain List 1.127 of 1.158
    Malware domains 21.130 of 21.146
    Spam404 5.741 of 5.742
hpHosts’ Ad and tracking servers 44.577 of 48.012
    MVPS HOSTS 13.200 of 13.203

Dan's list is only a hand full so not really worth to add here.
hphosts & mvps are part of my windows hosts file for general filtering for not-browser software

    Chromium64 58.0.3029.110 from https://chromium.woolyss.com/
After adding command line switch "--disable-reading-from-canvas", blocked elements counter in uBlock Origin icon stop working.

You could simply disable those two lists and also Peter Lowe's and the Malware Domain List as all of them are integrated in Steven Black's hosts file which is fetched over HTTPS. Add this list manually.

    Code:
    bournemouthecho.co.uk###bbpvos
works all fine here. Something else is preventing this filter from working properly on your side -- see "The removed element reappears when you reload the page?". Alternatively, it could be https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/issues/2585 -- to confirm, just purge one small fitler list and force an update.

    Thanks for this, gorhill!

Mine is most probably because of cosmetic filtering being disabled. Disabling cosmetic filtering (globally) is one of the first things I do when I install uBlock Origin. At least, now I know!

How do I add that github repo manually?

Go to the uBlock-setting "3rd-party filters" and paste the URL of a github repo into the text area below the "Custom" entry

Well I'm baffled, after a full purge it does indeed work, thanks for the reply and help :)

And congratulations on exceeding users by over a million and a half against noscript!..That's some feat given the age of both addons!

I find myself missing tracking cookies.

In their hayday tracking was done via a cookie on your system, now due to the masses blocking them, advertisers instead use tracking url's which are far worse than cookies, as they intercept requests as a intermediate connection which has performance and reliability considerations.

e.g. prefetching dns on a google search result is broken because all links point to google's tracking server.

I keep trying alternative search engines like startpage and searx but they have problems, searx misses tons of search results and even sometimes gives me a blank result (when supposedly using google as a backend), and startpage also misses some but much less, however startpage has issues on video and image searches.

ublock is a script and ad filter, NO cookie manager and NO redirect bypasser. there exist tons of undirectors/google clean whatever.
some google functions are mandatory or sites get broken. dont use google if you dare, pretty simple.

about dns prefetch read my answer.

Try giving https://duckduckgo.com a chance as a search engine, it has a settable option to use a redirect- or a direct link for your search results.
Regarding tracking url, uBO offers a fair amount of corrections, but it will always be a cat&mouse game.

I used to agree on dns prefetching but now days most dns records have an extremely short TTL value, which breaks RFC in a big way but regardless the practice is now widespread, meaning passive caching is not very effective, prefetching now has more use which is now why I turned it on again in my browsers. Ublock origin I am not aware of any way how it removes redirects, it simply either disables the tracking domains (in which case clicking on a tracking link posts a ublock block page) or it doesnt. It doesnt rewrite url's to direct links. If you have a way to make it do this then post away the solution. :)

I know for firefox but what about chrome?

Sadly I no longer use firefox on my main desktop due to its weird performance issues.

I am back on startpage now anyway, I switched to their classic theme which doesnt have the bug on images/video.
