Good to know! But since I have it disabled in Win 10 Task Manager (Startup), I'll never see it running ... :D

I've always thought Avira is a good AV. They have always had good detection ratings in most Independent test.

Maybe because most people think it's only signature based and it's free version has some crapware (avira connect) included.

Your best bet is to pair excellent Avira signature based detection with an Anti-Exploit protection (drive-by web exploits, ransomware, etc.) that is behavior based. :thumb:

Avira always had a very crowded hate club. Most of these guys while having a free meal, they expect Avira to do what they want without paying a cent. I've always thought it is a bad idea to offer a free version. As for my experience, I've used it for 10 years without any real problems or infections. Let's not forget it has received the 2016 award of product of the year by AV Comparatives, not a bad performance considering Bitdefender and Kasperski are excellent programs.

I think its great to offer free BUT if you have free you should combine it or improve the settings :)

But still for the best protection just buy pro version :p

I have the Pro version, but I have turned off the Pro features. So I guess that I am just paying for support and supporting the developers. The Free version really has everything you need, except for support. :thumb:

Avira Paid & Free = Same Engine, VDF & APC.
Avira Paid only = Web Protection (aka WebGuard) & Support.

If it was only signature based it wouldn't have done so well at AV Comparatives. Avira Connect is not crapware by itself, it is an interface that allows the installation of other programs offered by Avira, one can bypass it by right clicking the tray symbol and choose what to do (scanning, updating, opening GUI, etc). I personally don't use any of these extra programs so I don't understand why it is such a big issue for some people...

I said "most people think", I didn't said it's true.
Well at least Avira can give us the option to remove it, like avast gives for all of its unnecessary components.

When my Avira Pro updates to the latest version, does Avira connect do so as well or does it have to be updated separately ? Also how would I find out which version of Connect I have?

    1) Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    2) C:/ProgramData/Avira/Launcher/Version
    3) If you have the CCleaner: Tools > Uninstall

In my case it never happens simultaneously, Avira Pro updates fairly quickly from the day of release, "Connect" I still have version 1.2.83.46341 on 2 machines, not important but it doesn't make any sense considering that connect is so intimately related to the main program. Furthermore, Connect's GUI often warns that an "Action required!" and in fact everything is perfectly normal...

For Avira Connect, takes some time the update to the latest version.
I update Connect manually (download the latest and install on top of the working version), as the latest version contains a lot of improvements & bugfixes, always.

    i.e.
    Avira Connect 1.2.85

    Improvements:
Router name is shown in the devices tab
Delayed systray start to decrease startup time
    Performance improvements

    Bugfixes:
Upgrade tab is not created in some cases
Spinning wheel shown forever in some cases when opening the Connect UI
Connect UI shows Avira Antivirus as installed after uninstalling

I'm a little worried about Avira Pro for Mac since one of my experiences. Avira normally detects WeatherBug as adware. But when I accidentally installed it from the Apple App Store, it went right on through. It made my Mac feel more cluttered, so I did a re-format. Is the WeatherBug in the App Store not the same as the ones it detects?

Weatherbug has long been known to be adware/malware/crapware or however you want to classify it. I remember telling people to remove it off their Android phones as far back as 2009ish. I am hypothesizing here that since the Apple app store is more strict in what they allow, they refuse to let the Weatherbug crap get in, and the devs submit a cleansed version.

That being said? Use Weather Underground or something reputible.
