I don't see the need for a backup solution to be able to check for Ransomware. If your backup is clean, bootable and not on your hard drive. That article is ridicules as far as I am concerned.

I agree. I prefer backup solution that does one thing right - makes good backups.

They are just cashing in on the fear about ransomware. Pure scare mongering.

Just what we need... with the history Acronis has as a "True Image" product, the last thing we need is it to be called a SECURITY product as well... <jeeesh...>

Boy did they stack the deck in Acronis's favor. Under features the list Acronis as one of the few with continous backup. Unless the version of Macrium was the free version you can schedule stuff as easily as you can in Acronis.

Also the best defense against ransomware is simply not let it on your machines in the first place

I wonder how hard it would be for malware to kill that product's services and processes and then encrypt archives.

Keep an install DVD on hand. They're available for a small sum.

when nothing boots and Windows is gone - that will save the day.

Better yet, protect the images with something like secure folders or FIDES. Then all you need is a USB key with Recovery Environment. That should save you even if the disk is totally wiped

    Of course not.

The absolute must is to keep it apart from the system after imaging period.

External HD's are not that costly and it's as simple as keeping clean images made to it and pulling the USB plug until time refresh your disk to square one pristine clean.

USA still the best. But barely.
Not once did ATI work for me. Everything else worked until it didn't. ATI never worked.

Well I back with Macrium, IFW and Drive Snapshot under windows, and have never had a single failure. And for those who fear Incrementals, I have a Macrium Jog that is up to 55 Incrementals and it restores just fine and just as fast.

Not true. Terabyte and Drive Snapshot are two companies who does not really focus on making money. Mainly because they are operated by just the core tech people who write these products. I have enjoyed the free upgrade for Image for Windows/Linux v2 for almost 10 years before they upgraded to V3, despite so many more new features were added along the way. Drive Snapshot currently has a monthly release schedule which allows trial users continuously use trial versions without having to pay a penny. I feel the developers of these two programs really have some decency and honor in their products, and having the incentive to improve their product, while not just use their products to make money.

    Hi Jo Ann

Candidly I think it's a silly feature. If it detects ransomware on your system, you are already infected, and you should restore to clean the system. As to reliability, I have found it fine, but I only image from the recovery enviornment. The install is a real pig, 10% about imaging, and 90% about selling other "stuff".

PM me and I'll give some other info

    Pete

:thumb: Couldn't agree more on that. Although not so familiar with Terabyte (I know it's really good though) I am a very long time devotee of Drive Snapshot and it's developer too is very generous for a near flawless product which I have depended on for years without a single failure.

And yes, you did hear/read that right, no exaggerations either.

I also backup with Macrium. But I try to keep clear of all the marketing hype and focus only on simple backup and restore functions of the product.

One of these days I will learn to do incrementals/differentials on some sort of easy schedule but for now (always been this way too) they both serve the purpose of backup and restore with confidence for me.

To clarify, I have never used Acronis myself, I also sometimes read bad stuff about it. But I just wanted to inform people.

Most of the positive ATI comments that I've read here on Wilders are from those who restrict their use to cold backups (using the ATI Boot Disk). Since I prefer to use my computer during the backup process I installed ATI (back in 2013) and while it was very user friendly, failed restores proved it to be unreliable. So I uninstalled it and moved on.

Sorry Pete, but I don't get your remark if it was directed at me (or was it directed at Rasheed)?
