Did a right click file scan this morning. Afterwards 3.7.20 reverted to 3.7.18?
But hey I can right click and scan a file now, that I could not do before all this install reinstall.
Will it last? Your guess is good as mine.
I'll just leave things as they are for the time been.
Let the Dutch boys enjoy their holidays.

It should last, but you'll see it tomorrow if you still have the right click menu.

    I really hope so.
3.7.18 will it eventually upgrade itself to 3.7.20?

After the final release of 3.7.20, older releases will automatically be upgraded to this version.

Abandonware is a product, typically software, ignored by its owner and manufacturer, and for which no support is available. Ever hear of GeSwall? It still has a website. Should I post that link for you? Will that prove that GeSwall is not abandonware?

I don't think it is аbandonware. I sent a few dmp files to Eric and he replied really fast.

Lets watch and see as time is the bringer
    of all truth ;)
For now I will employ an alternative "On Demand" scanner.

Point of clarification... I didn't say it was abandonware, I said "HMP is showing early stages of abandonware."
    Big difference.
Their support is really suffering, in my opinion. And their performance, in terms of repairing a feature that they broke with a new version, is not very good.
As for everyone being on vacation, they should make that schedule clear on their web page where they solicit customers.

Which one are you using. I have looked into Emsisoft.

I won't promote another here in this thread out of respect for SurfRight, but I will
acknowledge that you mention in your post my "go to" option ;)

Tested 3.7.18 this morning, all seems to be working correctly, right click scan, quick scan at startup also.;)

So far you have no ammunition to back up the original statement "HMP is showing early stages of abandonware."

Other than the fact that the missing context menu capability was reported 24 days ago, and the fact that it is one of the main features that users want when they purchase this software, and other than the fact that there has been complete silence from the devs on this thread regarding this matter, and other than the fact that there are repeated instances of members posting and not receiving responses, and other than the fact that the emails I have received from HMP support personnel have been technically wrong in their content (a detail I have not felt like publicizing here), and other than the fact that this company has been purchased and frequently this is how programs die off... other than that, I guess you're right, there is no reason to suggest they are in the early stages of abandonware.

I understand the concern. But as far as I am aware, there is no universally agreed upon definition of "abandonware". But common sense tells me that the time scale applied to abandoned software has never been applied to "weeks". More commonly years are involved ...

Sometimes developers are preoccupied by working against a clock to get the next major release ready. Perhaps one imposed by the new bosses

I think time will tell. Take a breath. In the meantime, just run the full scan. It only takes a few minutes in most cases. ;)

All abandonware, by whatever definition one chooses to go by, had at one time, in retrospect, early stages. In other words, the downhill slide into full-blown abandonment started with neglect, delays, lack of concern for customers, less than stellar support, and general unresponsiveness and complacency.

Fans of the neglected software offer multiple excuses, but in these cases of eventual abandonment, the writing it on the wall. More often than not, the signs are read in reverse order, as in looking back, it should have been clear. If you've been around security software for 25 years, you've seen the examples of which I speak.

It doesn't take much effort for security software developers to drop by on a forum to "feed the faithful". And personally, I cannot fathom any company taking vacation time en masse. They, of all people, know that malware does not take the weekend off, let alone a month.

As far as your advice to run a full scan, that is not appropriate advice for the user who wishes to scan a downloaded PDF or an executable file, or any file, prior to opening. That is how I have become accustomed to operating with Sandboxie and HMP, but now I have to use another product.

I run ESET NOD32 AV and have always used their context menu single file scanner in conjunction with HMP.
That has been my basic one-two file check.
Now, without HMP right-click scan capability for the last 24 days, I've gone back to using Jotti and VirusTotal more frequently.
I feel extremely handicapped without HMP to scan single files or folders.
