On my Windows 7 x64 I manually installed Security only updates (link) and IE cumulative security update (link) with no noticeable problems.
I also installed .NET cumulative update and Office 2010 updates using WU with no problems.

All 4 patches installed smoothly. Those were KB890830 (Removal tool), KB4018483 (Flash player), KB4017094 (Silverlight) and KB4015217 (Cumulative update).

I pity the fool who tries to update Vista this month. Windows Update is still not working in Vista and M$ has got the Update Catalog so fubared it's unbelievable. You find an update and click the Download link and it gives you four links but tells you absolutely nothing about what they are except x86 or x64. I finally found a page that tells you what they are and it turned out I only needed 2 out of 8. All I can say is I'm glad it's finally all over. :)

I am confused about this month's update - my Win 10 system downloaded the updates and advised that the restart would happen outside active hours. Good - I started a image (should have done that prior to the download of the patches) but then mid way the system crashed (first time), then it restarted and the updates were installed. Checking the system they were successful but I am still on 1607 - I thought I would have been served 1703? I don't think I want to trust the image either even though it has just validated but that's probably for another thread. So are you getting "normal" patches this month plus the anniversary update?

Not everyone will receive Creators Update straight away. It could take weeks or months before Creators Update rolls out to every machine.

I did exactly the same as you, Minimalist, on Win 7 Pro 64-bit. I used the links given by Mister X for the first two. Then the .NET and Office 2010 via WU.
    So far no problems.

Win 10 April cumulative update bused Win Mail & Calendar app. Had to remove and reinstall from Win store. First time that has happened. You might want to check you Reliability history or Event log for abends.

I already hid the Malicious Software Removal Tool for April because of reported problems. I will see how the May MSRT does in the days following its debut before i install it.

I have given up updating my Vista machine, after every update (often taking 15 hours) it was getting slower and erratic in its performance. I restored an old image (more than a year old) and the machine is working perfectly now... Why is this happening with Vista updates it's anybody's guess...

I hide MSRT every month these days. It's a totally unnecessary download that just clogs up the system and wastes time.

Woody said last year that it does more things than looking for malware and people should run it.

"Microsoft is working on a fix after Tuesday’s Windows 7 and 8.1 security updates misfired on some users, forcibly locking them out of future Windows updates.

Microsoft has acknowledged that the updates’ detection mechanism, intended to force users with newer 7th generation processor chips to move to Windows 10, also caught people with 6th generation AMD Carrizo DDR 4 PCs, which were explicitly allowed under terms of Microsoft’s Lifecycle Policy FAQ. Microsoft admitted erroneously blocking Windows Update on four different Tuesday patches: KB 4015549 (the Win7 Monthly Rollup), KB 4015546 (the Win7 Security-Only patch), KB 4015550 (the Win8.1 Monthly Rollup), and KB 4015547 (the Win8.1 Security-Only patch)". http://www.infoworld.com/article/31...newer-processors-to-windows-10-backfires.html

Vista's reached it's end of support. No more updates after this month. M$ don't care about Vista, that's why it's been such a pain to update lately, imo. Personally I'm glad I don't have to mess with Vista updates anymore.

Woody Leonhard was wrong. The April .NET Framework are not "Recommended", but "Important" updates, security patches.
See also MrBrian's and PKCano's comments on the AskWoody Lounge.

Regarding Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool,
Could you please specify which article it was in which Woody Leonhard said Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool does more things than looking for malware and that people should run it?
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Dragon1952.
I have also been looking for such post by Woody Leonhard, but wasn't able to find it, either. Of course there are many articles by Woody Leonhard, so it can be hard to find a specific statement, if not sure what quote to look for, exactly.
If you, of someone else, might find the meant article, please let us know.
