Thanks for the suggestions. I was really interested in Panda, but then I found out that you have to have MS .NET Framework 4.0 on the computer. I have a small HD of only 20GB so I don't want to fill it with .NET. I have also been interested in Qihoo 360 TSE with BitDefender engine. Does it have as good detection as Tencent? Would it be lighter than Tencent to operate? I will look into Comodo firewall. Is this a good combo with cloud based av?
You would need to try PC Manager and see, how much RAM you have free. 360 probably has slighty better detection. As for its RAM usage, I have no idea.
Are you saying that Comodo Firewall would be sufficient security? So, I would not need an antivirus program at all. Where can I get cruelsister's settings?
yes, check my signature here the settings: https://malwaretips.com/threads/comodo-firewall-10-setup.67954/
AS you know Kevin , Bo Clean did not have anything good to say about this company. And so I do not care how good they are doing I will never touch their software again. That is all I have to say about it. I have always respected Kevin and will always honor his posts and ideas. Just glad he is working for a company now that respects his coding skills and knowledge.
OFF TOPIC, but to give you more details about your question... Comodo Firewall it's not just a firewall. It comes with a cloud lookup feature that doesn't scan files on realtime, but on-access. So, if you download a malware, it won't stop the download. But if you click on the file to run it, then Comodo Firewall will kick in. Assuming you are using cruelsister's settings, first Comodo Firewall will check the file on local trusted vendor list, local trusted files and online whitelist/blacklist. If the file is on the blacklist, Comodo Firewall will block it. If it's in the whitelist, the file can run without restriction. If it's neither in the blacklist, nor in the whitelist, the file is treated as unknown, thus running in the sandbox, where it can't affect the real system. If the file turns to be malicious, you just have to clear the sandbox and everything will be flushed. If you know for sure the file is good, you can trust it so that next time it won't be sandboxed
Thanks for the clarification, Imuade. Would the cruelsister's settings for Windows 10 also work on XP?
I think so, Comodo Firewall supports XP (only 32bit), as you can see here https://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/firewall.php
Softpedia has removed the download of Tencent PC Manager from their website with the following warning: "WARNING: Download links for Tencent PC Manager have been removed temporarily due to suspicious activity (after installation, the application attempts to download some files which are detected and blocked by antivirus products, including Tencent itself)." Does anyone know more about this issue?
I don't know any more. All I can say is that I was running PC Manager on a few computers for quite some time and never saw anything suspicious. I uninstalled it due to some bugs, but my girlfriend still uses it. If it wasn't for the bugs, I may still be using it.
In my opinion it is safe to use. When I last used it a few months ago there were some annoying bugs, which lead me to stop using it. I don't know if there has been any improvment since then. Tecncent continues to release new versions of PC Manager every week or two, but still never publishes any changelogs.
No, I`ve always had way to many false positive problems with Tencent.and that was about a month ago. Regards Eck
Taking out your internet connectivity I would consider pretty major. Also the quarantine was blank so no restore options. Never had a problem with BD free though Regards Eck
Yeah,it was only on an old xp test rig so I thought all system related files would be well known by now although it was the restore problem that really alarmed me. Regards Eck
I have been using Tencent for 40 days. It works well. Updates virus data several times a day. Updates the program about once a week. No false positives. Does not slow down my old laptop. Very satisfied.
Hi wondering why adwcleaner and malwarebytes always picks Tencent as pua or malware ? Anyone else see this when running scans after installing Tencent or using it.?
