There's what I view as a concerted push by LE across the western world on this, hopping from one jurisdiction to the next - I think there's back-end collusion to manipulate the political process and "argument". In the UK, there's been a push against end-to-end encryption after the recent attack. My view is that this is a salami-slicing tactic till they wear people down even though they haven't won the argument. Nor will they acknowledge the legitimate market driver for end-to-end encryption, namely unprincipled mass surveillance.
