FossaMail v38.0 (email client) has been released.
With the newest release it jumped from v27.0 to v38.0
(since v27.0 Lightning is integrated into the application, and is no longer a separate download. If the user doesn't want it, it can be disabled after installation)

    38.0.0 (2017-02-15)
This version bumps the application version to 38.0 for reasons of add-on compatibility.
The only other change is no longer directly relying on addons.mozilla.org for extension updates, since it was causing problems for a number of people serving incompatible versions of the lightning calendar/Google data provider add-on, and allowing us to intervene in the future in case of unreliable updates to extensions.
    27.0.0 (2017-01-25)
This is a major new milestone update!
Both the application code and the back-end code have received a complete overhaul.

A brief summary of the biggest changes:
    • Switched the rendering engine to Goanna.
    • Switched the back-end code to Pale Moon 27.
    • Hoisted most of the application code to be Thunderbird 38 equivalent in functionality.
    • Added support for a few additional authentication methods for connecting to mail servers.
    • Integrated lightning into the application (no longer a separate download).
Since this is a new milestone with new front-end code, you should expect the application to look slightly different (although changes have been kept minimal) but otherwise operate (hopefully) mostly the same.
As usual, if you need support, please go to the Pale Moon forum's FossaMail section.

    What is FossaMail?

Important notes for people using a language pack:

    FossaMail v38.2.0 has been released.
    - security and maintenance update -
    FossaMail
    Release Notes
    Download
    38.2.0 (2017-03-28)
This is a security and maintenance update, updating the platform code to Pale Moon 27.2.1.
Please see Pale Moon's release notes for details on the updates involved.
    27.2.1 (2017-03-24)
This is a small update to fix some stability and usability issues.

    Changes/fixes:
    • Fixed an issue with planar alpha handling (transparency) when drawing JXR images.
    • Fixed a crash related to a change JavaScript array handling introduced in 27.2.0.
This became apparent with the pentadactyl extension, but could happen in other situations as well.
    • Fixed a crash when opening ridiculously large images with HQ scaling enabled (default).
Pale Moon will now only apply HQ scaling for images within reasonable limits (64 Mpix or smaller). Images larger than that may not display properly when zooming in, or may not display at all, even scaled down (e.g. >256 Mpix large) and show a "broken image" placeholder instead; please use dedicated image viewer applications for those kinds of images; it is outside the scope of a web browser to handle such large images.
    • Changed the way URL hashes are handled, and will no longer %-decode anchor hash identifiers by default.
Note that this is against RFC 3986, which states that any part of the URL scheme that isn't data should be decoded.
This is required for web compatibility because several sites use hash links to pass actual data to web applications (Please don't do this! Hashes ar part of the URL address, should only consist of "safe" characters, and aren't suited to pass arbitrary data) and the most common browsers no longer follow the RFC in that respect.
If you want RFC compliance, switch dom.url.getters_decode_hash to true
    • Restored 2 RSA Camellia cipher suites that were missing: TLS_RSA_WITH_CAMELLIA_128_CBC_SHA and TLS_RSA_WITH_CAMELLIA_256_CBC_SHA
    • Fixed an issue with custom toolbars getting deleted during upgrade from 27.0/27.1 to 27.2

Important note: If you have previously changed the configuration to enable deprecated/vulnerable cipher suites to connect to old mail servers (you really should upgrade those where possible; e-mail by design is private so secure encryption is very important!) then you will most likely need an additional step:
In Options, go to Advanced, open the Config Editor, find security.tls.insecure_fallback_hosts and add your insecure host(s) to it (comma-separated). This is needed for RC4 and 3DES.
    38.1.0 (2017-03-15)
This is a maintenance release to address theming issues.
You will find that the default theme is now closer to what Thunderbird has; if you prefer more color and an even compacter view (and non-Australis tabs), I recommend you check out available themes for it, like the "Classic TB2" theme which is a fast and professional theme very close to the classic view FossaMail has had since its inception.
