It looks like v22.9 has been re-released. Norton is now at v22.9.0.71.

I've tried so many different individual and combinations of AV / Security products over the years and always tried to assert my own independence upon them, playing with customisations. Now got to the point in life where I have realised that not only is life short, but there are so many security threats out there that I simply can't keep up to understand them all any longer. A couple of PCs have Norton Security running, I must admit I am quite happy just to let them take care of an integrated solution that hopefully covers all the bases, but just taking a look now, most modules seem to be able to switch them on and off, see attached screenshot. I have 4 PCs running Webroot, 2 running McAfee, and 2 now running Norton Security. I must admit, not having used Norton for a few years they've really got their act together. Their detection rates across AV Test, Av Comparatives and notably MRG Effitas Online Banking Certification are impressive. Impact upon PC performance is not too bad either. So far, so good, fingers crossed.

I've kept Norton on one machine just because I have a sub' but I've had enough. I have lost count now how many times Norton has detected its own files, the latest today. :thumbd:

Time to move on. I've got Avast happily running on my two other machines but I might just stick to WD for a while on this one.

Bwahahahahaha!!! And someone the other day was telling me Norton doesn't do such things. I'll just use my sub on my Android devices. At least that seems ok. I'll also stick with WD for a bit.

I have it running on two machines and even running full scans I have not ever had it flag it's own files. Now NPE , I admit has a few FP's, but it is not like the tool does not warn you that it is an aggressive repair tool.

Are you running it on the Windows 10 Creators Update by chance?

Gotcha. No issues with it?

I am still just running WD but chomping at the bit to install a third party av that is not gonna screw things up. I have two machines with a clean install as well.

Upon installing NS, it was not fully recognized by windows defender security center, a restart was required to clear this up, and all has been well since, running very smooth.

Good to know. Does Norton disable Windows Defender or do you have to take care of it manually? Any recommended settings? I have a license that is good until September of this year I believe.

Norton will disable WD. Default settings is what I use and also how I test it.

    Awesome sounds good. Thanks man.

EDIT: Almost forgot to ask. Do you use their browser extensions? I normally do not.

    Anytime..

I have been dropping some bold hints in the Norton Forum about the toolbar and safe search, neither of which I use. The toolbar needs to go altogether and safe search needs to be powered by something other then what it is. I have Ublock Origin set up with custom filters, it combined with Chromes built in security, and added to Appcontainer suffices.

I have a screen shot I will share, showing I am indeed on the CU update running NS, and also ran a scan with Norton Power Eraser, and not one false positive...

That is awewsome. The only concern I have with going back to Norton is it deleting files (fp's) and if it will bog my system down. If I can set it and forget it I will stick with it for awhile. I do not install either browser extension for Chrome. In the past I always felt it slowed down browsing. I also use uBlock but do not have any custom filters setup.

I feel like an idiot here, but what exactly is Appcontainer? Some kind of sandbox?

    Thanks again.

I have not had Norton ever "Auto Delete" anything it was not supposed too. I have a feeling most of those that do are running mostly Freeware on their systems which may or may not include some added items Norton is not agreeing with.

Appcontainer is windows isolation "sandbox", it is what all your native Windows apps run in including Microsoft Edge. It can be toggled on in Google chrome by "chrome://flags/" in Chrome , scroll down and enable "Enable AppContainer Lockdown".

Understand about the deletion. I know some people who have had this happen, however I have no idea what kind of software they have installed on their systems.

Did not know this existed in Chrome. Many thanks for the tip. I have it enabled now. Cheers!

Well, I took the plunge and decided to download and trial Norton Security 2017 Standard edition for the next 30 days. First impression, running it for about 6 hours now, is positive. So far, so good.

It's been a while since I've used any Norton products. The last time I used a Norton product was in either '04 or '05, and it was NOT a positive experience. I actually bought the Internet Security Suite before even trialing it, and I experienced problems within DAYS of running it that were caused as a direct result of the software itself! This latest version seems really good, though, and it reportedly tests well according to most of the reviewers that perform independent malware testing of AV software....so I guess I'll see how well it runs and performs over the next few weeks and then decide if it's a keeper.
