I started using it in late 1999. Here's an old page about it............................. http://windowsitpro.com/windows/conseal-pc-firewall
@snerd Thanks, for that link...I remember the very first time I ventured onto the internet 2002 with an old Compaq computer, that had just been installed with XP Pro, the very first thing I downloaded was the software firewall, Zonealarm. But, I soon found out about Sygate, which I am still using on my XP desktop along with HIPS.
Yeah, they say you always remember your first time! I first got on the web in late 1995, with a brand-new Packard Bell computer with a whopping 8mb of ram. A 420mb hard drive lol!! I remember using Prodigy on a dialup 3600 baud modem. Funny how you remember stuff like that, but I guess the Internet changed everything, didn't it?
Just in case anyone is looking for old legacy versions of the Outpost firewall, try: try http://ftp.twaren.net/cpatch/security/outpost/source/ Or a mirror of the same: ftp://ftp.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/chinese/cpatch/security/outpost/source/
I remember something called Tiny Firewall, back in the middle to late 1990's. I didn't have a clue how firewalls worked and ended up locking myself out of my Leading Edge computer - 2mb RAM and a 40Mb hard drive. Had to reformat the thing and reinstall the OS with a stack of floppies.
thanks for the mirror pjoter. Shame the newest is outpostpro_7.0.3376.514.1234.exe 18-Jun-2010 00:00 28M
Thought 9.3 was the last build ? Still running OSS(minus the AV) and still really like the amount of tweakable features packed into it. Regards Eck
I swear I was sober when I posted that. What I meant was I am using the very old version of PC Tools Firewall Plus but am tempted to go back to Outpost 9.3 which is the last version.. Sorry
I just thought for a crazy moment the firewall had got updated on the fly somehow then I realized it`s probably a totally different firewall altogether that you mean`t. Happy tweaking with all your lifetime licenses, have fun. Regards Eck
It's now on two machines. Just one more to go. My other computers now have ESET Smart Security on them and they have built-in firewalls.
