Well it is even possible to disable the messages from Panda in the GUI-console. I noticed Panda18 has a special memory (protection) driver now also. So with its decent protection statistics it is a nice freebie.
My Panda Free Antivirus version 16.0.2 has never upgraded itself so I'm glad to hear that it'll still be doing the job properly. I'd like to instal the latest version but what's stopped me hitherto is the worry of being unprotected for that brief period, perhaps longer if the fresh instal fails, between uninstalling the old version and fully installing the new version. If, as you say, the installer offers to automatically remove the old version I'll try it. Did you use the installer from the Panda website or elsewhere? It just worries me that according the Panda website page from the link posted by somebody above Step 2 instructs to uninstal the previous version of panda. If I instal the new version and it doesn't remove the old one, what's likely to happen? Will the installation just fail, so no damage done, or could it mess up my current protection?
Why would being unprotected for a few minutes matter? Unless Panda is continually finding threats on your system, you have nothing to worry about.
I wouldn't worry about being unprotected for a few minutes. As your version is an older one it might be prudent to uninstall it and run the Panda generic uninstallation tool before installing the newest version. http://support.pandasecurity.com/forum/index.php?sid=c110abd6878d32351225013f23590c0f You should find information about doing this on their forums, they're usually quick to respond I find. You can get the latest version (and some older versions) from File Hippo http://filehippo.com/download_panda_free_antivirus/
Does Panda do much advertising with the free version? Don't really want to deal with those annoyances if I don't have to.
It has advertising, but it can be completely disabled. In the settings there's a Show Panda news option which you can turn off.
Find any particular reason to go with the paid versions? The site follows the Avast mentality of "Be very vague about what each option offers" bullshit.
I like the firewall in the paid versions of Panda. It only alerts you if if thinks theres something suspicious, so in normal usage, alerts from it are close to zero.
I think there is no reason to use the paid versions. However, I don't want to manually upgrade several computer in 2017, and still no answer from Panda support why auto upgrade doesn't work! So no Panda for me any more ...
That is great, one more reason to give Panda another chance. Since 360 TSE kills the notebook (I have to pull the battery out to start it) and Avast causes BSOD.
Does panda free update the client automatically with minor updates but not major versions ? I'm using panda free on a pc.
I don't think Avast is compatible with some older hardware. I have installed Panda Free on a relative's ten year old laptop running Vista and it works fine. I would recommend turning the Process Monitor off if there are BSOD's with Panda as the Process Monitor is usually the culprit. They actually recommend this on their forums. It certainly is nice to use an effective, light free AV with no nag screens. I believe Panda's the only one left. For me, using it is a no brainer lol!
I'm not sure what you mean. The signatures are automatically synchronised. AFAIK there are only major version upgrades.
I think, this a keeper, it runs light, eventhough it has dozens of services, it has PUP's detection enabled by default. The only thing, I do not like, its realtime protection can be easily disabled by disabling "Cryptographic Services".
I uninstalled it as both the Pro and free version were giving me constant event log errors upon every boot. I checked that event log (don't remember what it is but you can check your system) and it appears to be related to Panda and goes back to 2014
As @Daveski17 said, as far as I know, it only downloads definition updates. I never check event logs.
Hello, I've tried it, it's nice. Light, no popup, smooth installation and smooth uninstall. And there is a game mode. But I revert back to avira free, because, what I did not like is that when I download a rar with virus inside, the panda do not yell :-( Instead of that, it keep the rar on the disk till I unrar it, or till I make a manual scan on it. (Yes, I have checked the box to scan compressed files.) I've tried with the same file with avira free and avira remove it from the disk immediately. Windows defender is removing it not immediately, but a few seconds later.
I use Panda Free 18.0.0 with Windows XP SP3 on a old PC with a pre-SSE2 (SSE only) processor. It is probably the only decent AV now available to me. Version 18.0.0 works very well. The only slight issue is that an executable called PSExpCampaign.exe runs occasionally and fails with an illegal instruction. I wondered what this executable does. It lives in a randomly named subfolder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Panda Security\Panda Devices Agent\Downloads ... Panda 17.0.1 does not appear to use PSExpCampaign.exe.
Does anyone know difference between panda free vs paid. I cant seem to find any comparison chart. I think paid version are also fully cloud based ?
