Just bought a 2 year license for KAV. Seems light with the 2017 version

also, it now comes with Kaspersky Secure Connection and says it is powered by Hotspot Shield. I wonder if this is a trial or goes along the validity of the license.

I uninstalled it though as I have a good VPN myself but it's a nice addition if it was free with the AV license

It comes with 200 MB free per day. If you want unlimited it is an additional license.

I was wondering what the Kaspersky Secure Connection was all about because I have never seen it before. Don't think there was an option to not install it during installation. Did find out that all I had to do was just uninstall it. Would like to see an option to not install bundled software at the beginning of the installation.

Other than the snafu above, Kaspersky is running pretty good on my Windows 10 machine. NewEgg has been having some good sales on KIS lately, so I decided to use it on a few machines. I am showing version 17.0.0.611(b) installed.

K Secure Connection is a very useful option for these times that, sooner or later, everyone will need the services of a VPN without having to look elsewhere (F-Secure Freedome, for example). Besides, afaik, Kaspersky is the only security vendor that gives you such amount of VPN usage per day (for free) which is cool.

FYI patch b did not resolve this for me. I still get a BSOD on my desktop machine when Microsoft Edge is launched. Had to restore a backup yet again due to corruption from the BSOD. 2017 is still unusable for me. I give up on it for now because I don't have time to crash it, collect dumps, and restore the machine to a working state again.

Are all the features and protection modules of KIS 2017 now fully functional in WIN AU 64X ??

Difficult to determine from KIS Forums, K Websites, or net search, especially since it is unclear what version of Windows Kaspersky has/is referred/referring to as "Redstone" at differring times.

It should be compatible with the currently released versions of Windows. They do not support the Insider previews, and it will BSOD. Unfortunately for me, it BSODs on my desktop so I can't use it, but would if I could.

Using the latest version of KIS 2017 on windows 10. Installed a Netgear 6400 router yesterday, and I could not access the router admin page 192.168.1.1. I could ping the router successfully, but could not access the admin page. Paused Kaspersky, and the page was still being blocked. Uninstalled Kaspersky, and I can finally log into the router. The other two computers that have Norton Security installed did not block the router admin page, and I was able to access router admin page with those computers one wired and one wireless.

After looking around on the net, found that this was a problem in KIS 2016. Don't know how to fix it, so for now I am just going to install Norton Security.

You should be able to workaround the problem by assigning the Netgear router a different IP e.g. 192.168.X.1 while waiting for a more permanent fix by KAV support, if any. ;)

Yes I read that changing the default gateway address was a workaround. The thing is was that this was an issue in the 2016 version that was supposed to be fixed. I was scratching my head as why I could not access the router admin page even though I could ping it. Spent way too much time figuring out what was going on. If my computer with KIS installed was the only device I had to access the admin page, I probably would have taken the router back to the store thinking it was defective.

I did find a Netgear knowledge base article about Kaspersky blocking the router management page.

I am hoping someone knows the download location(s) for the latest versions of Kaspersky 2017 products and will share said link with me. The Kaspersky website shows different versions, all of which appear to NOT be the latest versions based on file dates. Thanks in advance.

NB: This is NOT a joke :)

    OTish:

"Kaspersky brings you the smell of malware

...Kaspersky's latest endeavour though had us scrambling for the calendar to check whether it was April 1st, as the company is launching a fragrance. Described as 'threatening yet provocative' the rather disturbingly named Threat de Toilette comes, like all the best scents, in pour femme and pour homme versions.

'Fear awakens our senses,' says David Emm, Kaspersky Lab's principal security researcher and face of the new scent. 'The men and women who wear Threat de Toilette understand today's online threats and protect themselves against them. Fear is no longer felt only in the physical world -- it's all around us in our connected lives too and we need to make sure we're constantly protected.'

So far so gimmicky, but the launch in London's trendy Soho does have some serious points to make about information security. Scents in the range include; Ransom (reassuringly expensive), Social Enginoir, Mal-wear, and Phish...."

Does the Phish smell like herring? I don't think I want to try it.

I heard that it does -- keeps all persons at a safe distance thereby offering you a dual-layered protection against viruses and STDs.

I just purchased the 3 device, 1 year Kaspersky AV deal off of New Egg. I have installed the software and am currently using the trial. Does the serial activate when actually activate it in the program? ie - can I use the 30 days of trial, and then activate, effectively getting 13 months, or does it go on the date of purchase?

    @Austerity :)

I have not used a licensed version of KIS in a couple of years, but IIRC at that time and in prior years, the license did not start to run until it was used to activate the product. Kaspersky may have changed it's policy or have a different arrangement with NewEgg, but I doubt it. In any event, at least for the PC the trial is installed on, you have nothing to lose by waiting until the trial expires.

In reference to KIS 2016 products:

    "Activation code validity period

An unused activation code can be activated at any time, but the license will begin to expire on the day of initial activation. The license validity period is calculated since the first activation (once an activation code is activated on any of the computers)."

    https://support.kaspersky.com/12065#block7

    However, note the following:

"1. I have a license for 2 PCs for 1 year. When will my license expire if I activate a second application copy a month later after first activation?

The two licenses will expire at the same time. Even if you do not activate another application copy, the license will be limited to the period starting from the date of the first activation. You can read a detailed description in the 3.7 point of EULA."

NB: This Q&A was referring to the 2013 EULA, which may have changed, but the first quote above indicates that it hasn't.

    https://blog.kaspersky.com/faq-product-license/2152/#f

For a more definitive answer, try the KAV/KIS Forum, which you will likely want to follow and join. There, I would simplify the question to:" Does a download purchased serial key for KAV begin to start the one year period when purchased or when actually used to activate the program?"

Usually licenses purchased online are activated in that moment, licenses in a box are activated when You activate the 1st system...
