Is Anyone Still Using Windows Vista?

Ι've seen many XP-based systems, but fewer Vista-based ones...

 

As seen in my signature, Vista is on my secondary laptop which I use occasionally. Contrary to the majority of users I never had any big issues with Vista and I for one cannot say a bad word against it.

 

You can use the --disable-infobars shortcut switch to stop the notifications.
Or maybe you could try switching to one of the many Chrome clones available.

 

Totally skipped this and Windows 8/8.1, don't think I missed anything. I like others to try out Microsoft's experiments for me lol (though I probably should've gone to 8.1 instead of straight to 10).

I haven't been here in about 13 years (member since 2003), but I wanted to chime in on this necrotic topic (that is now very relevant to a handful of folks). I am still using Windows Vista SP2, and with over a decade of tweaks, adjustments and improvements, I absolutely dread being forced to abandon it.

In my 11 some-odd years using 32-bit Vista as my primary OS on my solid HP "Media Center" combination of the HP M900T and the later D5200, it was only last year I perfected my desktop to run as an extension of myself. LOL.

Point is, I have 8.1 and 10 on 2 other machines and rarely use them in favor of my trusty ol' Vista, which, if I had my way, would be supported another 10+ years! For me, Aero is better good while metro is badder fugly. I just can't deal with all those squares and sharp corners.

Yet in 30 days I will fall to the wayside and find my resting place atop a pile of useless, unsupported and outdated operating systems as my Vista soul rises into Aero glass heaven.

time to upgrade my friend the new systems are bigger and better then the pervious ones, And just like that bike you'll love it once you get the hang of it. And it's not trusty your at risk being on the web with that PC.

 

CF ended support for Vista with 52 and FF will follow suit with the forthcoming 53.

You can run older browsers but they won't be patched for security vulnerabilities.

Time for Windows Vista users to upgrade to Windows 7.

 

I'm using FF 52.0 ESR which is the extended support release before all support ends for Vista in September 2017. In addition, I'm using NAV which has gotten worlds better since the 00's when it was more a resource hog than anything else. Likewise, I have Ad Block Plus with a very customized extended set of lists as well as NoScript 5 Suite blocking everything I don't explicitly allow.

Plus, common sense. I'm not a newbie. I've been online since 1989 (Gateway/Compuserve/Usenet OMG lol). I don't click on any links that Web of Trust doesn't explicitly green-light as well as Norton Safe Web indicators on search results supplementing MyWOT and even then I use caution.I have only 5 start-up items and govern my processes to run when I need them and not when MS says I should.

I never click on links to sites I don't recognize and never download email from people/companies not white listed. Would you believe I'm also still using Outlook Express?!

Nonetheless, and your advice is well taken, I'm not upgrading until I am forced to buy a new machine entirely. I love Vista and far prefer it to 8.1 or 10-- both of which run on my laptops. But for everyday desktop use, it's Vista or Bust!

 

Hmm still okay with XP nevermind vista.

Yes browser support is ending but i pretty security aware since i am on wilders.

 

Actually started with 8.1 and disliked just about everything about the desktop. Vista wallpaper on a Windows 10 machine (sorry), also have seen images of actual desktops with icons and the whole works. Neat! Sorry I missed that era.

By the way, that IE icon in the quick launch bar isn't actually IE. It's Firefox, but with the IE icon. I preferred the blue icon to the orange icon. lol.
