:D it really is. Registering a valid account is nonsense. It's 2017.

I wish they would fix their un-installer for the free product. Even after removing it, Windows Defender will still claim that BitDefender Free is still installed. I've had this happen twice now on two different machines.

Bitdefender is unable to deinstall their own software, very nice for a security company.

    Hi All

Tile says it all. I had BitDefender Free Latest Version on my machine for several months. Today I find BD is not working and requires me to login. Then I find that clicking on the button to login does not work. I go to BitDefenders home page and successfully login and find that my computer is not assigned to BD Free.

I am required to effectively buy a licence and it installs BD Pro. Is this correct? I was certainly not made aware that BD Free was not free or more accurately a limited trial.

    Thanks

    Terry

To be fair, this is not only an issue with Bitdefender. Recently when I was testing many antiviruses, I was getting high CPU use from Windows Explorer due to leftovers from of the antiviruses, until I manually tracked down and removed the leftovers. Also, I had an issue recently where after removing Avast, my internet connection was broken, and the only way I could get it working, was to reinstall and the uninstall Avast again.

Yesterday I had the same issue, for the very first time.
Uninstalled and reinstalled BD-free-2016, and it worked again.

I guess this was a temporary glitch, otherwise my phone would have been ringing all the time today.

If you combine it with the free BD Anti-Ransomware, you get an unbeatable combo - anti-exploit can be taken care of by Hauri ViRobot APT Shield, which BTW, uses the BD engine.

I have seen several tests with BD Anti-Ransomware , its useless, it doesn't stop Ransomware.

There is an option to turn off "notifications with special offers" but it doesn't work. However, I really like the new version of Bitdefender so far. :D

    Hello,
    Just my feedback.

I've tried BD Free (the last one, on w10 pro). I really, really tried, but I had to roll back to avira free.

Because, first, I had many problems to install. Tried the online installer, nothing, and after, the offline installer, but I had to try many times, did not understand why... (even with the firewall off)

And after installing, I had freeze. Something like one freeze during one minute every minute. :-(
I suspect that the freeze were caused by the coexistence of Windows Firewall Control and BD Free but I'm not sure.
    No alert on WFC... strange...

So I uninstall, and the freeze disapeared.
But the uninstallation left a process (a "correlation service" if I remember)
I've downloaded the uninstall tool (the one made for the paid antivirus), and it removed everything.

    regards,
    laurent

Today I tried to install BD-Free-2016 on a customers WIN7 machine.
    IE was disable via control-panel/software/windows-components.
BD displayed, that the minimum requirements where not met..., and showed a white window, instead the login screen.
So I enabled IE, but BD insisted on the latest IE...
After IE11 was installed, BD installed, and run.

    Hhm,
I don't like that BD needs IE, to be enabled.

I don't like that it needs Windows to run. :geek:

    Hello,
ok, I managed to install, I think it was related with the firewall.

    But... deception... :-(

I've downloaded a rar full of trojan, and it does not blocking immediately like avira free.
With avira free, the rar is blocked when it is written on the temp directory by firefox, so before you click on "save" or "open".

With BD free, it is saved on my downloaded files directory...

If I browse the directory, it is not detected not removed...

If I extract it, ok, the trojans are detected...

I have spent an hour to read many forums, everybody claims that BD free is one of the best. Do I miss something ?

There are simple tests here: http://www.amtso.org/feature-settings-check-for-desktop-solutions/

BD Free passed all of them on one of my machines for what it's worth.

They don't scan the whole rar file when you download it, only when you extract it will see all the trojans inside .... so it was detected, but in an other way :)
