I have not had it installed so I have not tested this personally, and I don't plan to do that. So use at your own risk! It seems to be yet another AV using the BD engine from what I have read on a Danish forum. http://www.chilisecurity.com/ They refer to Bitdefenders results by AV-Test of course! But they also provide a free version. http://www.chilisecurity.com/free-tools/free-antivirus/ Don't ask me anything about it, I don't know anything more except what I have already said.
lol 7$ per month. i also highly doubt pcmag actually voted them best security. i would like to see where it says that on pcmag site not chili (lol) site
Yes, these sentences from their "About" page make me want to give them lots of money... "Chili Security’s driving force is made of the chili fruit’s characteristics and properties. More precisely its signal color, strength, healing cabilities, attitude, renomé, and its power. As people and as a company, our core values and characteristics are much aligned and mirrored with those of the chili."
Chili Antivirus and Security are not rogue. Except the prices they charge. They won pc-mag adwards three times in a row. Chili Security sells rebranded software. Guess from which vendor.... It's easy, just install the free AV and find out, like I did.
You have to register with a valid email, but no credit card data, to get a download link and an activation code, giving you a 366 days licence for chili-antivirus, which is a fully featured Bitdefender Antivirus plus. It includes Tune-Up, Safe-Banking browser, Virtual Keyboard, and a Wallet, to manage passwords. But I didn't find a way to set exclusions... I did not ask for reboot, but after I did reboot, it disabled Windows-Defender, with the option to allow scheduled quick scans. I guess after 366 days they will ask for a subscription, but Chili-Antivirus will not make it that long on my WIN10 testing machine, because exclusions are not possible, or not easy to do.
I wa curious about this AV, so I sent an e-mail to them, just to check: Q.: I have seen that your Company made an agreement with Bitdefender to distribute a rebranded version of their Antivirus. Do you have a feature comparison between Chili Free AV and Bitdefender Free AV ? A.: That is correct, however we do not hold a comparison between the two Q.: Which version does your AV use? Upon installation, does it automatically download the latest version of Bitdefender Free AV (currently the 1.0.5.14) ? Does your AV get the same updates of Bitdefender AV ? A.: Our version is 2015, but the virusdefinitions is fully updated Q.: Do I need to register to get the free license? If so, is it a lifetime license? A.: You will need to register before 30 days have gone. However, you will need to re-register every year Some thoughts, based on what written here http://www.chilisecurity.com/free-tools/free-antivirus/ If it's based on BD 2015, how can it support Win10 ? Does BD free have an antispam? Does Chili free offer web protection?
I just gave this a try. The online installer was stuck at 0% progress for some time, before it actually started to download the full installer, and the download speed was slow. It's good to see a full version of Bitdefender available for free, but like @Hiltihome I don't like that files have to be ignored manually. Also, it seems to be a bit heavy when scanning.
So, Chili Free AV actually is BD AV Plus 2015? Including anti-ransomware protection, web protection and other stuffs? If so, I think it's way better than BD Free AV 1.0.5
It doesn't have anti-ransomware, as I guess that musn't have been added until until the 2016 version, but it has everything else.
