Has anyone used Xvirus Anti-Malware o_O? .... looks promising and reasonable cost ...... might be useful if MBAM 3 can't get its act together

I ran one nasty piece of ransomware past it. By by machine. This baby needs a lot of work.

He's up against established players like Kaspersky and Bit Defender that are world class anti-malware products.

A lot of work to be done before its on their level. And its not a standalone product.

Did you test ransomware using the Pro Firewall? That's the only Xvirus app where I saw "Protection from Ransomeware". Check HERE then scroll down to the Comparison table. (However, these old eyes may have missed something. If so, gomen nasai.)

I found the bug that was preventing Xvirus Ransomware Protection from working properly. It will be fixed on the next update.

    Thanks for the fast update!
Is it compatible with Emsisoft Anti-Malware?

Its a competitor to MBAM, ZAM and EAM, so it should run nicely with them.

Difference with them, it offers real-time protection for free and with the others you have upgrade to the paid version to get it.

I just gave this a quick try. It appears that just like AdwCleaner, it lists the files and registry keys found, without listing the actual threat or PUP they belong to. As a result, I uninstalled it within a few minutes.

There's just no way I would ever let any antimalware software remove anything unless I know what it is.

I retested. First the same Cerber Sample. I right clicked on it and scanned it. It was clean. Then I turned all other security software. It made no protest when the encrypting stopped. Since it was just the data that encrypted, I dropped Golden Eye on the system. Ran it, and down she went for the reboot and capture.

Draw your own conclusions. I won't be doing any further retests.

  19. Poor Dani (@Xvirus) you are fighting a battle which can't be won

There are some iron laws in marketing and product innovation which are always applicable:

    1. In a mature market you can't compete with existing technoloy against the existing players, because

    a) There is no clear consumer benefit or compelling reason to switch from supplier
    b) Economy of scale advantage of existing players can never be met by new entrants
    2. Using existing technology (virus blacklisting), track record and experience will always beat talent and enthusiasm in terms of

    b) Customer trust (track record versus talent)
    c) Product reliability (experience versus enthusiasm)

    Peter's comment says it all

    My advice

Dani, do yourself a favor and switch to newer technology like white listing or machine learning, because innovation is the field of play where enthusiasm and talent can beat experience and track record. In fact innovation is the field of play where new players often beat existing players (the response of old players is to buy new players like Sophos dis by buying Surfshield and Cylance).

Send me a PM when you want to discuss alternative idea's (I help companies with their go-to-market of innovations)

@fblais Yes it is compatible with emsisoft anti-malware

@Peter2150 I tested with cerber, cryptolocker, shade and some other and some other variants of ransomware and all were blocked on execution even with the signatures turned off. I don't know how in your tests that doesn't happen.

@Windows_Security That's where you are wrong. I offer something unique on the market I compete. Have you seen Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, Emsisoft Anti-Malware or Zemana Anti-Malware offer real time protection (including cloud technologies, anti adware and anti-ransomware modules) for free? See there is already a key difference that I plan to expand on. Of course I plan to expand on new technologies in the future like machine learning, whitelisting and advanced behavioral protection in the near future, but those technologies are still very new and not that reliable on their own. They are just fancy words used heavily in marketing. About new players lie cylance beating sophos? Here.

    HI Dani

I don't know what to say. I install it in a win 7 Pro x64 VMware Workstation VM that I use for testing. I right clicked on the Cerber sample and Xvirus said it was clean. Then I shut off all other protection but Xvirus and ran it. Don't know what else to say. If you think I am doing something wrong tell me what.

    Pete

I'm not saying you are wrong, but the code is. Probably there is a bug that is escaping me. But i read all the code found 1 bug and fixed it, It's just strange that it keeps happening to you. Can you send me your sample in a pm to check?

It is against forum rules to exchange samples, and part of my posting tests is agreeing not to do that. I am getting my samples from a forum that does post them.

Ok, sorry I didn't know. I'll test again with some other variants of cerber and let you know.

Ok, so just installed this. (7.0.1)
I selected the french locale, but accented characters are not correctly displayed:
    upload_2017-2-24_9-26-38.png

I've also tried to run a quick scan but I get a popup saying a database update is already running.
I tried several times, always the same popup about an update already running.
I didn't select an update, I selected to run a scan.
Seems to have a confusion here.
