I am getting a BSD whenever I try to boot into Normal mode with my USB connected external HDD plugged in. I am able to boot into Safe Mode, but not Normal. If I unplug the external, before booting into Normal, and wait until I am booted up before plugging in back in everything works as it should. Have tried different ports, but makes no difference. I checked out the external with manufactures software and there appears to be no problem. Have run some malware scans and nothing. Ran sfc /scannow. Anyone one with ideas?
Check the default boot order in the firmware (UEFI, BIOS) setup. Put the USB device after the internal HDD.
Hello Robin A......Yes, I have already checked out the BIOS and it is as it should be. Any other suggestions? I forgot to mention that I have two folders in my external HDD that I am unable to get rid of. Left overs from AX64. They are $RECYCLE.BIN and a locked folder System Volume Information. I can remove the former to only have it return. There just might be a problem with them. Today I reinstalled AX64 to see if that would fix anything. I don't think they are needed to run AX64 and sure would like to see them gone.
Rainwalker, They are "Protected OS files" present in all NTFS partitions. They should be Hidden. Check the Attributes. Edit... What is the drive letter for that USB partition? I'll provide script lines.
OK. First you need to take ownership of the files on that drive. You can leave all your files/folders in place. Open an Admin Command prompt and keep it open until you are finished. Run these lines (copy/paste them and press Enter)... Code: takeown /f J:\ /r If asked to type Y for YES, do it. Code: icacls J:\ /grant users:F /t Code: attrib +s +h "J:\System Volume Information" Code: attrib +s +h "J:\$Recycle.bin" Close and re-open Windows Explorer. The two folders should no longer be seen. All OK?
