I don't have the link, but just look in the backup thread. There isn't much more there however

Curious of what you guys and girls do when you make full backups on anything Pre-Win 10.

For example, before making a DS (or Macrium) "FULL" backup image, and since I now sort of fancy the CustomRefresh feature found in both Windows 8 & 8.1 (it's gone in W10), I delete that CUSTOMREFRESH.IMG file first, take a couple of new registry backups with RegBak + Tweaking.com's RegBackup, and then proceed with the image backup.

I guess it doesn't really matter if that Custom Refresh image gets made fresh and goes along for the backup ride or separate like I like to do, since it's total GB is only a fraction of your total "used" volume.

Anyway I don't want to sway too far off topic. DriveSnapshot on this end is really been a mainstay for many years and while i almost replaced it when realizing the satisfaction of Macrium, i cannot in all honesty point out a single time it has ever malfunctioned or didn't do what it was always designed to do for my XP machines, and onto Windows 8.

I have a new laptop with win7-x64 installed. The SSD was initialized as a GPT disk. I would like to convert the disk for MBR use. If I make a backup with SD, will it restore the backup from the GPT partition style to the MBR partition style without problems?

Not enough information. Is the current W7 config UEFI-GPT and do you have a Recovery Partition and/or a Microsoft System Reserved Partition?

If the System is freshly built, it may be easier to re-Partition the SSD to MBR and Clean Install W7.

Yes, it's a lenovo preinstalled W7x64. It has a P1=100MB efi , P2= hidden 128MB, P3=W7x64 255MB P4=Brecovery 14GB. I want to have the original system as a reference later when I install new. The SSD has a GPT partition style.

My question is. if I do a backup of the OS from the GPT style partition, will I be able to restore it later when I make the disk MBR?

In that configuration, your Windows System partition does not contain the information needed to BOOT the System properly, which it would need if you were to just restore it to an MBR-based disk. It can be done but requires a basic MBR-based disk, that partition restored, and a special procedure, run from an external media (WinPE/RE), to make the Windows partition BOOTable.

    Does anyone use this method?

    http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/restwinsetupWin8.htm

It only gives you a Command Prompt. I think the following is better...

Boot from a Win 10 DVD or UFD
    Next
On the Install now window, click Repair your computer
    Troubleshoot
    System Image Recovery
    Windows 10
    Select a system image
    Next
    Advanced
    Install a Driver
click OK on Add Drivers (but drag the Add Drivers window to the very top left corner of your monitor before clicking OK)
plug in a USB flash drive containing snapshot64.exe (or snapshot.exe). You can also use snapshot64.exe/snapshot.exe on a HD partition.
    click This PC
(drive letters may be different from booted Win 10 )
Navigate to snapshot64 (extensions aren't shown) on the flash drive or HD partition. Right click snapshot64 (the Application, file extensions aren't shown) and choose Open.
click Cancel on the "Open" window
click Cancel on the "Add Drivers" window
Drag the "Re-image your Computer" window to the bottom of your monitor so the Drive Snapshot window is in full view

Drive Snapshot is ready to use.

New v1.45 builds 17509 (x64) and 17510 (x86) were released on Dec. 20, 2016 and are available for download. No changelog is provided but since these builds come just 2-weeks after the initial builds of v1.45 it seems to me they probably contain bug fixes!

Can someone that has the trial 64-bit DS version (17509) make it a available to me? I want to keep it for archival purposes,
but accidentally erased it . I went to the DS site, but DS must have bee updated recently which is now at version 17533/17534.

Hello Does Drive Snapshot respect the alignment of SSDs when restoring a disk image?

If that image came from an HDD partitioned under VISTA and beyond, its boundaries will already be aligned properly for SSDs. If it came from an XP System, the imaged boundary will be most likely wrong for SSDs.

Many imagers allow the re-alignment of those imaged partitions upon restoration, but many don't. A quick look at DRIVE SNAPSHOT's "on-line manual" shows no options to re-align an imaged disk structure... but, who knows, it may be there anyway :)

PS- if you can see the sector # of the beginning of the 1st partition and it's value is 2048, you're good to go.
