Privacy is a strange thing, being too private means being unique, therefore not private at all. Being withing a herd is actually more private. My sig says it all. I use FB, steam and other forum profiles with the same username set to public, but I do not share my real birth date (in my country something like a social number in US). Internet provides enormous number of data, security agencies use robots to sort them out, unless something stands out, then a person looks at it. So am I private, maybe, somewhat. Of course I use startpage to search or an encrypted DNS, because my ISP/government would not like, what I am looking for (something almost illegal), but I try to appear as a "normal" person.
I see you have W10= no privacy. I Understand you trying for privacy, but with ms10? Lost cause. Sad every one jumped on the pads (cell phones). But in this era almost no body gives a %#! (about privacy) Please privacy is privacy you don't have to justify your feelings! Please so sick of hearing "I have nothing to hide".
I do not think it's quite right there... W10 has privacy issues, in default settings definitely. But by carefully altering the settings and using O & O ShutUp10 you can have a good level of privacy. But if you are of those who prefer not to mess around with settings and falls in any article saying that the W10 is a privacy nightmare, well this is no longer an OS problem. Unless of course you're talking about an overpowering global adversary, but unless you're using Qubes, TAILS, or some configuration of multiple VPNs, TOR, etc, any other system would not be no match for an opponent of that level. Either way, the operating system is not the only source of invasion of privacy. As you browse the internet, the applications you use, social media accounts, etc. can be far worse for your privacy than you being one in several million to Microsoft. Despite my effort to learn and adapt on Linux, I know that mainly through my work, it will be difficult for me to change a system as productive and stable as Windows is. I have tested several Linux distributions recently and had many problems. I do not want it to become a discussion of Linux vs Windows, but for some people it is not that easy to switch operating system. I use SandboxIE to prevent browsing history, cookies, malware; I use adblockers, few third-party software, I use VPN, I do not mix my personal browsing with websites that are known to be very aggressive about data collection (Google, Facebook etc) among other factors that, although I am not completely anonymous (And I see no reason to be 100% of the time) I know that I take measures that prevent certain things from being collected.
True, someone can break into home, that's whats guns (self protection) are for, finally I can say this without consequences .this part is covered. For me, No Win 10, facebook or any social media, google blocked! Try my best to block MS. Have SBIE, and use ancle (http://www.ghacks.net/2016/09/12/ancile-block-spying-on-windows-7-and-8/), Ublock, VPN, Adguard and my tin foil hat. Even this won't work 100%, but giving up is no solution!
I am surprised there are 4 votes for 'not at all', especially on a security forum. I suppose you could be not at all concerned if you felt you had done everything reasonably possible to protect your privacy. However, you would have had to be concerned in the first place to do it.
If there was a "very very much" I'd go with that, so "very much" will have to do. As for that mantra "nothing to hide" well, : X. It is sad that lazy people trade privacy for convenience and always want something to titillate the senses in the quickest way possible. Edited to add: Exactly. Here's another thing, I ain't in the least bit paranoid. What I do have is a HEALTHY sense of caution and common sense.
For me privacy goes way deeper than just internet and computers. I have a private unlisted home phone number, I have strategically planted trees around my house to offer at least some privacy from the neighbours, I do not use social media, I use a dumb phone and close my blinds at night. Paranoid? I wouldn't say so. My tinfoil hat hasn't been worn for months.
Somewhat. I am just too lazy to do the work to reach the kind of anonymity and privacy that some folks here are speaking of. I just do the very basics. I have some data with Google, Microsoft, and the likes. I have sold my soul to the devil so to say.
