It's cool until it gets exploited again. Pardon my pessimism, but I feel like there is little possibility for one small guy to stop an army (literally an army) of hackers employed by China, Russia and the US.
It's cool as a more-secure replacement for SMTP and IMAP, which are hopelessly naive. Is it perfect and unbreakable? That's hard to say. But it would clearly be a vast improvement.
Agreed. But only if it becomes massively adopted. Otherwise if you are 1 out of 1,000 or 2,000 individuals using this then you can be easily targeted by other ways.
Right. It's a long game. Shorter term, I'm liking Pond < https://pond.imperialviolet.org/ >. And there's even an email gateway: https://pondgw.hoi-polloi.org/intro
I dislike the apparent reliance on the CA infrastructure. I'm also feeling I don't want to be tied to email addresses as the handle for communicating with different parties.

Curiously, Lavabit is coming back on immediately after inauguration of Trump. Interpret this as you wish. Whois still lists Registrant / Administrative & Technical Contact as Ladar Levison. See also: https://darkmail.info/
the first part is nonsense, Ladar Levison is now in Switzerland and working together with silent circle
Since the lavabit.com (server) is located in the U.S., what evidence do you have that Levison is currently in Switzerland working for Silent Circle as lavabit.com has just been recently activated as of Jan 20, 2017 -- Tom
