New problem just started a couple days ago. No viruses, software or hardware changes.

W7P64 every couple restarts or fresh boots all the icons on the left side of the Taskbar disappear. Only the start button remains. I downloaded a Rebuild_Icon_Cache.bat file years ago & that does the trick.

In addition I've tried unlocking, locking the Taskbar. Also unpinning the Icons: IE, Calculator, Windows Explorer, Vivaldi & Firefox. Then pinning them back.

But the problem of every couple restarts or fresh boots all the icons on the left side of the Taskbar disappear remains.

My last image is 9mos ago. Any solutions?

This is so weird. IconCache.db is present & available in Safe Mode. After a regular reboot IconCache.db is gone. Copied IconCache.db from Safe Mode rebooted & pasted it back. Rebooted & it's gone again. Still available in Safe Mode though.

    What the heck?

Had this happen to me a week into Windows 7 installation. I did the fixes you've already mentioned, it didn't end up working for me. Reformatted, 2 days later same deal. I'm not sure what the issue is with Windows 7 and the majority of its icons.

Are you using any kind of cleaner, system optimizer etc?

Anything like a cleaner optimizer that's included in any resident av?

Are you talking about quick launch?

Quick Launch yes. Nothing has changed for over a year so I reject that any software caused this.

I bit the bullet & restored my 9mo old image. I suspect the cause is Windows Update. So I'll update except WU & image it.

I am wrong & you are right. After updating a few of my programs the problem reappeared. Tried System Restore no soap.

I believe my System Restore might be *** up so I'll fix that first with Tweaking.com Repair Toolbox unless somebody knows a better way to fix SR.

I'll reimage then Update BIS 2017 & Firefox only. Run that for a week & image that.

Then go 1 or 2 program updates at a time, wait a week & reimage on & on.

If there's any easier way to do this I'm all ears.

Still plugging along making images along the way in case of fubars. I see progress but time will tell.
