LOL, M$ has lost my trust, too little and too late. I'm seriously considering to install Win 8.1 on my new PC that I will buy in the coming years. I do hope that the EC and other watchdogs will continue to pounce on the Win 10 spying practices, or what they call "telemetry".

I use my laptop infrequently. When I opened at the weekend to use it I found that it was in the middle of an update and had to wait until it had finished. Inconvenient as I was waiting for a Skype call.

Is there a way to bypass this? But I am guessing not. Looks like I will put Win 8 back on this m/c which runs much better anyway.

Bad luck.To pay attention to the power buttons before shutting down may help.
Update and Shut down / Update and Restart.

I use a free app called "O&O ShutUp10" to modify update settings and also privacy settings.

Windows 10 Creators Update + AppLocker = ASR (Attack Surface Reduction)

As we know with EMET, this allows blocking specific DLL modules within specific executables and therefore blocking targeted application whitelisting bypasses.

Although it seems consumers may not benefit from this great security feature since AppLocker is more frequent within enterprise.

The problem with Windows upgrades is, they are not upgrades or service packs, it is a new Windows. Even basic users are becoming aware, that an upgrade means a serious trouble.
If you are running a perfectly tuned Windows 10 and you will upgrade, all hell might break loose, like drivers, apps and software might stop working and do not expect any help from MS.

Yes, it's a big step. Old timers (like me) will remember how cautious IT departments were when installing service packs. Now a complete operating system upgrade is automated and unattended on the systems of users who don't know what to do if something goes wrong. The fact that deferring these upgrades is not an option in Windows Updates is irresponsible IMHO.

In Windows 10, you can't turn off updates. Welcome to Windows as a service.

Think of Windows as a perpetual beta. If you like the latest and greatest, that may be up your alley.

It sucks Microsoft hasn't made Windows Enterprise LTSB available to home users. Some of us prefer long-term stability.

In my Windows 10 Pro, there is the option to 'Defer feature updates' under Advanced Settings.
