Yeah, just odd they're still selling the paid AV (not IS) as well. Just see my link.

I'm wondering if it actually is the 2017 version. The screenshot on the box is the 2016 and the official download links also point to the 2016 version (http://www.avg.com/us-en/download). I think the only advantage of the paid AV would be that it has no ads?

if avast bought AVG, how come we are still seeing AVG updates and a Beta?

They will develop AVG further because it is used by many people in the USA & other countries, avast has more customers in europe, so a different market

I registered and entered all my personal info and after clicking on next. the page that came up said I don't have permission to view page :thumbd:

    "Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://secure.avg.com/us-en/71926" on this server.
    Reference #18.dfc18f18.1485116019.1f12dcad "

but when I click on the link I just posted it takes me to the beta login screen. will see what happens when I try login.

I've installed 17.1.3006 but it's showing last definition update was 18 hours ago even though there is nothing to update when I update manually. I thought every 2 hours was the least standard to adhere to?

I mean, if there's nothing to update, there's nothing to update. Checking for updates every 2 hours doesn't mean the definitions themselves are updated every 2 hours in the central database.

My point is that there should be something to update - we're talking about the A-V business? Or, does the product rely on a cloud component so no local updates? Or, does the free only get updates every X hours, where X>12?

It's pretty light and the UI is very Avast. I guess they will converge the products into one before tackling the big job of unifying the brands.

guys i can tell you first hand (im in prauge this week at avast) they are 100% working on everything and working hard to make the avg / avast thing work and work well. we voiced what i think are everyone's concerns and issues that i have seen here at wilders and other forums online and they were VERY attentive in listening and some of the things they already said they need to work on changing. after seeing the actual work that goes on here and the guys in the threat labs its for sure no small task to keep avg / avast at its best and these guys put long hours in for sure. i can say i believe it will only progress and be a huge contender (now they have over 400 million users with the avg / avast combo.)

for now they will remain separate. they will share the engine and avast will get idp. avg is much more popular in different markets than avast is so killing avg at the moment would not be a good thing for them. for instance in the usa avg is far more popular then avast is.

Yes, it did, thanks. Last time I looked it said it hadn't updated for 17hrs, so it likes to take its time. Anyway, I switched to Avast as a lot more people here and at Malwaretips seem to be using it. My gut feel is Avast is a little lighter on my laptop than AVG. Switching between them is now so easy given the almost identical UI.

soon you will not really have to decide ;)

if anyone here at wilders has issues or concerns you can either visit the avast forum (which they prefer, and im over there also) or please feel free to ask me. i will try to either answer or direct things directly to the right people. on the way back to the usa :'(:'(:'( its awesome here wish i could stay!!
