I don't know why the log is complaining about incorrect date, my computer seems to be showing today's date, jan 20 2017 (it is already fri morning in my time zone)

 

I did a routine scan with Malwarebytes Junkware Removal Tool. VS kept prompting and blocking all the way through the process. At one point I was warned not to proceed because" a program is trying to stop VS".
Should I have exit VS before using JRT?

 

Yep, that is exactly what is wrong... it will be a somewhat easy fix . I say somewhat because one of the most difficult things for me (besides web development) is the whole region / language thing. But either way, I will put this on my to do list and it will be fixed soon.

Yeah, this is normal . I just tried it, and it looked like JRT looped through all of the processes it needed to kill in order to properly do its thing.

YEP!!! The first thing that I do when I am cleaning up a clients computer is exit out of VS... so whenever you are running these types of utilities, you really should let them do their thing, and make sure the computer is not locked in anyway. So basically, exit out of all security software... well, exit out of everything .

This kind of reminds me of when people are trying VS, and after installing our software, they go into VS's settings and lock every single freaking thing down as much as possible, put VS on Always ON, then as a test, try to install software that modifies the heck out of the system. And then they complain that VS prompted them... keeping in mind that traditional application whitelisting would have had 10 prompts . Quite funny!

The reality is, if you want a secure system, it is going to ask for your assistance from time to time... there is absolutely no way around it. In 100 years, Ai might be smart enough to do everything for us automatically, but that is not scheduled until VoodooShield version 124.11 .

Sorry, I went off on a tangent... yeah, this is normal, just exit out of VS (and all security software) when you are performing maintenance. .

BTW, the VoodooAi score for JRT was .1692... pretty accurate for a valid cleanup utility .

 

VS is really growing on me. In the past I had a free license from a similar apps offered to me. In the end I had to uninstall it, could not get my head around it.
But that is me not the App.

 

I am trying VS after reading some articles in this thread. If Voodooshield.exe is terminated by a process will the VS service continue to protect the system? Is there any plan to protect Voodooshield.exe and the service from terminating by another process, e.g. Windows Task Manager?

VS will protect itself, with the exception of one very specific script. It is not a concern right now, and the only reason why we did not have full self protection before is because we were working out some freeze issues, and we wanted the user to be able to kill VS just in case something went wrong. But we will be adding better self protection soon.

I did uninstall some app from my machine 2-3 days a go... and remove all their leftover (drivers, registrys), i think i messed up something. But only for VS?

1. I can't find the VoodooShieldService.InstallLog file in the C:\Program Files\VoodooShield directory
2. Yes, there is a VoodooShieldService application in that directory.
3. DeveloperLog.log file is missing in the C:\ProgramData\VoodooShield folder. In fact this folder is empty!

And that's exactly my problem, I want a consumer based version. But if AI/machine learning is really that successful in spotting malware, I'm guessing that all major AV vendors are already working on it. I guess that's what Kaspersky was trying to explain, that AV's are already making use of advanced detection methods, but it would be cool if they were less depending on pure signatures.

Yes, I wonder why Cylance missed those samples. Perhaps this is proof that you can not depend on AI alone, personally I will always continue to use HIPS/behavior blockers, because I also like to depend on my own expertise. Even when "clean" tools perform possibly suspicious behavior, I often decide not to use them. For example, some tools will try to accept incoming connections, register a service/driver or modify process memory, when it's not strictly necessary. That's often a red flag to me.
