More info re DSA: In addition to anomaly-detection/behavioral layers of security, DSA also includes inbound/outbound packet filtering as well as port protection so it can be considered a firewall. That is why Windows XP Security Center detects it as such. However, DSA does have limited configuration capability compared to traditional client firewalls.

Yes...you are right...maybe rough interface but power under the hood...it's from years on my XP but another one in which I "loved" is Filseclab FW :)
Thanks Bellgamin...I forgot it but now I came back to it and added to my current setup on Vista...one thing only...yes DSA is asking about in/out connections but I like to much LnS to decide to move it from system :)

Interfaces were pleasing to me because so much could be set and viewed in one alert, rule making dialog or all rules in one window. I wish there was Kerio for Windows 10.

Compare that to the effort to do the same in, for instance, comodo or windows built in firewall. It's amazing how a simple rule maker can be made so complicated by all these separate dialogs. I guess they get paid per dialog.

Exactly, I am totally with you on this. The Kerio 2.1.5 had an interface most perfect at its time. Windows firewall (same since Vista) has always been a disaster interface. As a firewall it has dialogs cluttered all over. Worst there is no such see what is allowed like the way Kerio had, we remember BlitzenZeus surely.

WF is certainly a better firewall than what we had in XP times. Can restrict to services. The "zones" I don't really care as a home user, but anyways also a nice improvement. What it lacks is some spreadsheet like interface. Also the lack of protection to firewall rules.

That is why I among many others use a controller, that can actually be called a firewall because of those things I mentioned.

sygate runs on xp, right? why no mention here, i wonder? is it equal in "power" to kerio, i wonder?

getting back to the suggested use of zone alarm on xp -- i gave it a very brief trial. seems to slow things down a bit on my vintage 1998 computer. anyone have similar or contrary experience?

I liked sygate but it had a flaw or two.If i remember correctly the loopback /proxy issue and granting every app allowed server rights by default
