I came across this browser this morning I have never heard of it before, it is called Cocoon https://getcocoon.com/ It is the first subscription based browser I have seen and appears to be a Maxthon cloud type browser with more security features. Since it is proprietary I am just not sure about the company, anyone here use they browser that could shed some light on it? Thanks
Seems to be a browser integrated with VPN and anti-tracking? I wouldn't pay for this type of stuff. It was mentioned in this article: http://www.techworld.com/security/best-8-secure-browsers-2016-3246550/3/
@Mister X and @Minimalist could you check: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=getcocoon.com I think openDNS does not like the missing forward secrecy and returns an error which Chomium picks up
I probably use a browser more than another piece of software on my system I would pay a premium for one with top tier privacy, security, that is fast, and constantly updated from a reputable trustworthy developer. ( Yes I know I am asking for the impossible) It sounds like all the security and privacy you need in one box, I am toying with the idea of trying it out but you need to setup and account and give them your credit card information to start the 15 day trial. There are two flavors one without ad blocking and AV and one with both, I would be curious if Adguard would work with that browser and negate the need for the ad blocking feature and I already have a two tier AV and anti-malware setup so would not need the AV either. Since there is so little information about this browser I was hoping someone here had some hands on experience with it?
I agree with passing on this new browser. If someone can't get their website safe/correct, then I would not feel good in any way about any tech products from that website. IMO, sandboxing would not be helpful unless you both install and run the app sandboxed. Normally, at home, I run browsers inside a sandbox but those browsers are permanently installed because they are trusted.
Well curiosity got the best of me and I decided to check this browser out. I installed and ran the app sandboxed turns out it is a just custom 32bit version of FireFox 38.4.0 that has an integrated Proxy service, ad blocker, and antivirus. I did an IP check and the server it connects to appears to be in Pasadena CA. I am quite disappointed I was expecting some new cutting edge highly secure browser. Here are some pics of it; http://imgur.com/a/w1uvO
Nothing that Cyberfox can't do with an adblocker and privacy tracking extension installed. I'm passing on this one.
