Hello, guys. Currently I am using Avira Free Antivirus + COMODO Firewall Free + Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium. I like this protection but now I have a chance to buy Kaspersky Internet Security 2017 just for 9 EUR (special promotion from one magazine). Should I go for it? I am also trying to reduce my resource usage since I play a lot of games. Here is my current list of processes and how much resources do they use. Do you think it would be better with KIS 2017 :)?

Do you think 9 EUR for KIS 2017 is a good price? I like to customize my software a bit, that's why I am usin Comodo Firewall instead of Windows - because when some program tries to connect to the internet, I am prompted with a windows and I can decide if I let it connect or not or block it etc. Will KIS 2017 be able to provide me that kind of control?

Why not free, portable scanners instead?

Comodo FW + 360 Essentials, that's all you need.

I would first try Kaspersky in terms of performance impact, some people say it is very light others the opposite. The other thing is if you pay 9 Euros for a year, you will be charged the normal price to subscribe for another year unless before the expiry date you manage to get a discounted offer again... Performance impact is the main issue for me...

Not sure that Comodo firewall works fine with Avira: did you check ?

Comodo used to work great with Avira but that was years ago before Avira became bloated and was just resident file protection (all an AV should be IMO). I'd go with the Comodo choice just because I swear by tight HIPS and there's so much you can do with the granular rule setting in the FW too. I'd consider paying for MBAE though. There's a lot more I protect than just the default stuff. Consider adding paid Sandboxie too.

Which one do you think you would stay longer with?

I would pick a setup that can last me for at least a year, preferably longer. It's ridiculous having to change setups every few months unless this is a hobbyist or testing machine.

I voted: Avira Free Antivirus + COMODO Firewall Free + Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium for free. But there is a free version that works in real time ?

Paying for AV is just crazy, unless it is for commercial purposes, I would rather get more RAM or something.

I have a 36 months discounted subscription for Avira Pro for 3 devices (I actually use it on 2 machines) which cost me $ 0.87 ($ 0.435 per machine) a month or $10.44 a year ($5.22 per machine).

Is this crazy or reasonable? Yes, the normal price was more than 3 times what I have paid (still fairly reasonable), but in the past ten years I've always managed to find a discount to the normal price.

This is also true for other companies if one is willing to wait and find out. Last but hardly least, I think after using a free product for more than a year, it would be ethically desirable to buy a subscription (if the price is right) as a form of donation/support.

I'm not criticizing people using free products, it is a test bed for malware and a form of advertising, but paying for an AV is not crazy if the price is right.
