What are those Adapter Cables used for?

As i understand, those adapters used for USB 3.0 to external enclosures conversions ?.

They are used for connecting a 2.5" notebook hard drive or a SSD to a computer, instead of using an external enclosure.

 

Thanks for the answer roger_m. By using this adapter cable. Will BIOS see it as SATA SSD or HDD or it still will be seen as USB 3.0 bridge?.

 

It will see it as a USB hard drive.

 

It's a SATA to USB 3.0 cable.

 

Thanks. I was looking for USB 3.0 to SATA. My BIOS does work for some odd reason with external SSD as a boot drive. So that's why i was looking for kind of USB 3.0 to SATA. It will work with eSATA. Here is a link to my board https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/B85M-G43.html#hero-overview

 

Assuming you already have an operating system installed on the external drive.
There is normally a brief message telling you what key to press.
It'll say something like "Press F12 to Choose Boot Device".

Have a look at this list for different vendors.
And be sure to turn off Fast Startup in Windows (if you have it installed) or you probably won't get into the menu.

 

Agreed. Though one of these is commonly used to temporarily connect a 2.5" notebook drive to a PC to copy off files, it is not exclusive to 2.5 inch or notebook drives. Any standard SATA drive should be supported.

One of these cables is not likely make any difference. Any drive connected via USB will be seen as an "external" drive.
