The Web Filter Driver should only be active for Beta Testers with a Beta Keycode from Webroot. Also on Windows 10 the Driver is only active on the Edge Browser for all users. Again the Beta is up to v9.0.14.59 since Friday.

The Manual is a bit ahead of the game here. TH is entirely right in what he says (as always ;)).

Yes, because it has been activated for non-beta users when they use the Edge Browser (seeing that web filter extensions—and, I believe, extensions in general—are not yet supported by Edge).

You should now be on v9.0.14.58: https://www.webroot.com/us/en/support/support-consumer-release-notes
(though it may take a couple of days or so to download to your area: https://www5.nohold.net/Webroot/ukp.aspx?pid=10&app=vw&vw=1&login=1&json=1&solutionid=1085& )

Muddy7 is correct and on the same page as myself. Windows 10 users will see the Driver in settings but it's only active for the Edge Browser. I looked at a Windows 7 user PC yesterday and it's nowhere to be seen in the UI.

Version 9.0.14.58 (Released December 12th, 2016) - Note: Limited availability during deployment over holiday period

    Fixed

Well you talk to support and I talk to the Development Teams so who do you think is right? That's why I'm the Webroot Product Advisor to give correct info to it's users.

    Thanks,

    Daniel

Will take me a few minutes to wade through such a detailed changelog.

    Edit:
I wonder if near real-time antiphishing is driver or extension..?

    @bjm_

Well, however "senior" the escalation engineer is, I'm afraid s/he is wrong on that one (which is a pity as s/he should know better).

We beta users get our information directly from the person who heads the team that builds and develops the Web Filter Extension and the Web Filter Driver (and I am testing the driver on both my Windows 10 and my Windows 7 machines—until a couple of months ago, the driver also worked on XP). I would assume that as they are the ones that write the bloody code, their information should presumably be more accurate!!

Doubtless, TH will in due course be providing more info as to why this engineer apparently gave you wrong information :gack:

Advanced Settings—>Firewall/Web Shield—>Enable Web Shield and related checkable/uncheckable options (all of which should be checked for maximum protection).

Wilders Forum is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted messages.
I'm always respectfully open to receiving information and help from all Wilders members.

Information, as always, is dynamic. And many hands make light work.
And "wrong information" can be pathway to the "right information".

    Much respect and appreciation.

"Block malicious websites", "Enable realtime anti-phishing" (both parts of the Web Filtering Extension) and "Enable Web Filtering Driver" are the bits that "filter" the web. The other Web Filtering extension bit does what it says, i.e. provide "safety ratings" annotations when using the main browser engines: FF, IE, Chrome (but not Windows 10 Edge as Edge does not support extensions).

I understand what you are saying, but then what is the purpose of the option to check or uncheck for "web filtering" which I don't have the option to do.

Sorry I don't understand you. If you uncheck the options I refer to you are unchecking web filtering. And the converse is true.

I don't have the option for checking or unchecking "web filtering"
I have the following: Enable Web Shield
    Activate Browser Extension
    Block Malicious websites
    Enable real time anti-phishing
Show safety ratings when using search engines

There is no mention or options to enable or disable "web filtering"

    Hello,

It has been some time since I've posted to this forum, I generally post directly on the Webroot community. Given this discussion is as it is I feel it necessary to reach out and communicate a few things.

    1. The WebThreat Driver (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\wrUrlFlt.sys is not in beta testing.
1a. It IS true that individuals who are obtaining the Beta builds do receive beta iterations of this driver, and as such may have additional support in other operating systems, which can cause some additional confusion. However, there is in fact a release iteration of this driver, and it is live for both Consumer and Enterprise accounts.

    2. The driver is enabled and turned on in Windows 10. I did in fact misstate Windows 8, it is installed, but not turned on in the driver stack, I was under the impression this was not the case, and for this I apologize.

    So
What to expect from the solution functionally is as follows

    Extension installed, in supported browsers.

Search annotations are present, and block pages appear based on BrightCloud ratings.

Windows 10: It is possible to get blocks on outside URL requests, as a result of the driver inside of browsers and applications that do NOT have the extension. This is because the driver provides network filtering via Brightcloud reputation (Example: Edge and Safari).

Currently NO other Windows versions provide this additional DRIVER based block. Classic filtering for Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

Again, I apologize for the misunderstanding of Windows 8 and 8.1. All of the behind the scenes information confused me, and I was under the impression that it was indeed active after the initial beta. This was not correct, it is only stored on the system, but not yet active.

I don't know how to put this more clearly. If you uncheck "Activate Browser Extensions", the next time you open your browser the Web Filtering Extension (mine is v1.2.0.69 but I'm on the beta version so your will most probably be another version) will no longer be there. And when you check it again, the next time you open your browser it will ask you if you want to install the Web Filter Extension.

    It's as simple as that.
