In order to run a scan with the 2016 beta, it seems I have to open Windows Explorer, find the object I want scanned, then drag and drop it into the BD gui - do I have that right? o_O

On my Windows 10 system I can right click on file or folder and there is a context menu item to scan with BD.

I don't see why that wouldn't be there in Windows 7.

Drag and drop is more fun, tho. :)

I need to expound on that... When using a browser AND the other supported applications in the free version whatever they are.

For example, browser email (gmail, yahoo, et al) would be protected while Thunderbird would not.

Fwiw, I noticed my 2016 BD-Free beta just updated to 1.0.4.28. No change-log provided and no changes are evident.

The old version is still available direct from Bitdefender:

That's just a stub. Are you certain BD's back end still builds on the previous version?

Well, wtf... I guess the old version apparently will not auto-update to the new version. Does anybody know if we can download without a complete uninstall and have to start from scratch or what?!?

Today my Bitdefender-free-2016-beta auto-upgraded to the final version of:

    Bitdefender ANTIVIRUS FREE EDITION (1.0.5.10)

    A reboot was required.

Updates OK. Others' experience might differ. BTW, Windows 10 AU Pro x64.

Definitions updates are good (compare to time stamp in screenie insert above).

Not being a tinywall user, this is the best I can suggest...

    Check your trusts for:
    downloader.exe
    installer.exe
    updatesrv.exe

    And while you're at it:
    bdagent.exe
    ProductAgentService.exe
    WatchDog.exe
    vsswervppl.exe
    vsserve.exe

Those all needed in/out trusts in Zone Alarm Free, no AV. Or at least it thinks it does. ProductAgentServices and vsserve are fully active but I've not recently devoted any scrutiny to monitoring the other components' network work.

Make sure the Bitdefender Update Service is Running and Automatic. As well the Sercurity Service and the Correlation Service.

    Good luck.

So does the final version have a right click context menu for scanning files or do you have to drag and drop to the UI?

Sometimes I scan a full folder by right clicking and selecting scan. Does this mean I have to drag a whole folder to the UI?

    Yes.
Right-click on any file or folder, to scan with bitdefender.

Ran the installer here and it removed the old version for me, rebooted, and then installed the new version. Seems good so far. Updated fine. Scanning my system now. Very minimalist interface, but I like it.

Would I be gaining anything in the way of increased protection by upgrading to the new version on a Windows 7 computer?

Good to know, thank you for sharing.

For users still running the previous stable version, does anyone know yet whether or not those users will receive some sort of notification via the software tray tool? Some (or I should say many) of the users who I have setup Bitdefender Free on are elderly folks. So I am wondering if they would get something via tray that would notify them or even help them to initiate the upgrade process to the current stable 2016 version. Or also I am wondering if Bitdefender is sending out an email to these users to notify of the upgrade, since they were required to enter an email during first setup anyway.
