Windows 7 Poll

For those who are fans of Windows 7 like my self. Will you guys still will be using it, when MS ends support for it?.
If you ask me. I don't give a ****. Good security apps., HOST file.

 

There will probably be another POSReady trick that will allow you to receive security updates, just like with Windows XP. I didn't hear about mass hacking of Windows XP after it's support ended, so I doubt that it will be different with Windows 7.
Personally I will wait and see how things develop with Windows 10. We still have three years before support for 7 ends...

 

Yes, when my xp machines fail, I'll move on to win7, from there to Linux. Not exactly an "early adopter", eh?

Do you have any problems with finding software for XP or do you use old versions of software?

 

Actually several steps behind, I suppose.
Software is not a problem. Through the years I experimented a bit and found things that work. Many are still available and a few that are not are saved to a USB HDD. Would gladly post a list if there is any interest.

Fwiw, xp does anything I want , as well as the newer OSs, and it's a bit easier to control. To be sure, the option of lagging behind is not available for many users. Business, professional users, and schools must stay current.

I have 4 computers with Windows 7 and 1 with Windows 10.

For the record, the Windows 10 computer runs perfectly.

 

Good for you jadinof. You have a few years on me, and much more energy, apparently.
For clarification. I am an old, retired, LAZY guy who doesn't want to have to re-learn my computer every time microsoft hiccups.

Seriously though I am staying with xp while I learn how to control win 7 a bit at a time.
Control is the reason I will stay with win 7 for my own computer.
So far there is no indication that win 10 will ever be easily controlled by it's owner.

 

A man after my own heart! I moved from XP to Win7 in 2014 when the hard drive on my eight year old laptop failed and I bought a new machine. I had no intention of adopting Win10 only one year after getting used to Win7.

 

If you you have a new PC build some of the hardware is not supported or no drivers for XP.

 

Unfortunately it seems like Windows is going in that direction. Even 7 is getting harder to control (OS updates contain new features that some users don't want to have installed).

 

I ran into the driver problem as far back as October 2012 while setting up a brand new HP computer to dual boot win 7 and win xp.
No drivers for win xp even then, before microsoft had ended their extended support period.
Was only able to get it going by using a driver written by someone on another forum.

There are drivers available for these old xp computers, and anyway I have saved them in case they get pulled. Same for the win 7 drivers.

The only reliable strategy I can think of for maintaining control of win 7 without help from microsoft is to make good backup images.
Would welcome a better solution.

 

Microsoft does not have drivers for all devices (but the driver support gets better with each version of Windows). This is why driver update tools can be handy at times.

 

I bought a WIn7/Win10 machine on Black Friday, because I wanted Win7. Lenovo E560.

 

i'm using W7 on two of my three laptops: Windows 7 was preinstalled on this machines. Microsoft is still offering security patches for W7 threfore
i think it should be stil safe to use this OS....

W7 is the last M$ OS to offer a native Classic Desktop. Even then I have to use Classic Start Menu (© 2009-2012, Ivo Beltchev) to regain the W2K functionality I enjoyed. When this box develops sufficient Alzheimers, ReactOS should be ready.

 

I like Win7 but I don't have it installed since I am too lazy to deal with the updates for now. Once extended support ends on January 14, 2020 though, it would be interesting to see what kind of 3rd-party developments exist to keep it alive...

I'm sticking with 7, I just add the security patches if I find them individually usually via woody.

 

I'll keep using W7 on my old laptop til the laptop dies or MS ends support. If the latter, I'll replace w/ Mint or Ubuntu. (The hardware won't support W8/10).

 

Is that based on the manufacturer claims, or have you tried installing Windows 8 or 10?

 

I paid for 10, so no I don't use it anymore. Good OS though! Miles better than that Vista trash, which only survived 14 days before I threw the disc out and reinstalled XP.

 

The manufacturer says it lacks NX (it has a 2009 Intel T4400 chip).

 

Your CPU supposedly does have NX bit support.

I did a quick Google search and found posts from people who are running Windows 10 on a PC with that CPU and are happy with the performance.

You can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free.
