If you must use GNOME 3, the new Zorin 12 is based on it. First thing to do is install Dash to Dock extension in Chapeau. It makes the Favorites Dash behave like a real visible dock. GNOME 3 is actually easier to use with installing a few extensions. Before, it simply wasn't ready for the masses.
