Hadron, I also have "Align Partitions on 1MiB Boundaries" selected but it's not essential these days as most of us already have 1MB alignment on the source drive and the Target Drive will become 1MB alignment at restore time. "Align Partitions on 1MiB Boundaries" is only related to restores. It's not used for backups.
Does Fast Startup still affect IFW? I see in TBI Notify that there is an option to warn you when Fast Startup is enabled.
Hadron, It's not just IFW. Any app that writes to a drive while it's in a hibernated state can cause problems. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ucf/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=427
The other way to do it is to disable hibernate file altogether. powercfg -h off depending on the size of your RAM, the above command also can save several GB of space on your HDD.
I know I have asked this before a long time ago, but is there still no way to clear the TBI Notify log? I tried deleting the contents of IFW.LOG, but it still stays in TBI Notify.
Hadron, I don't use TBI notify. I can't see the point when I'm imaging daily. Uninstall IFW. Reinstall IFW without selecting TBI notify. You won't have to register again.
A feature that I would like in IFW is the ability to check for and install updates. I think it is an important feature in a backup program.
Hadron, You can check for IFW updates on these two sites... http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/upgradehist-image-for-windows.htm http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ucf/viewforum.php?f=9 Paid downloads are only available from (you have to login)... https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/product-download.php
Thanks Brian. But, I meant from within the program like Reflect does. Reflect checks for and installs updates, so I don't have to go looking at any websites to see if there are any new updates or if a bug has been detected and fixed.
Hadron, I'm the opposite. I never see the IFW GUI. All my backups are done automatically in the background without the GUI appearing. Full and differential.
hi i would like to restore a drive image to a virtual machine virtualbox but i have read https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=303 but my image for windows are not VMDK thanks
hi yes ,it's all in english , i will wait Brian if i do i need to create an VMDK file and if i need to restore via boot recory cd/usb stick or via the main program thanks
If you just want the image restored to a virtual disk file you can do that directly from IFW (VHD/VHDX/VMDK formats are all supported). In this case, you would add (create) the new virtual disk ("Add Virtual Drive" button) and then select it as the restore destination. After the restore is complete, create a new VM in VirtualBox and configure it to use the new virtual disk file. Another option is the TBOSDT copyp2v script, which provides an easy method of converting an image to a virtual disk file.
When you are restoring an image, the source (the backup image file) is not changed. If you use the new "Compact Data" option when restoring, the data will be compacted during the restore operation as it is being restored. In your example, the 20GB of data would only require 20GB of space to restore. Assume your image of the 256GB SSD has 20GB of data in it and you want to restore it to the 128GB SSD. However, IFW reports that 192GB of space is required due to the 20GB of data being spread out across the drive. To allow the image to be restored to the 128GB drive you would enable the "Compact Data" option for the restore. It will then fit on the smaller SSD because it only requires 20GB of space. The data is not defragged. It's just compacted.
