I didn't even realize until I made the purchase that the free version has differential backups included! That's okay, happy to support the devs.
Does anyone know when Macrium Reflect Pro or Home 7 will be coming out? Is it anytime soon? I know you need to pay again to upgrade Edit: I meant 7.
I have just bought the Home version having been using Free for about 12 months. I downloaded as suggested and added my license code and everything seemed to work OK. However when I go to use it, it still says "Free Edition for non-commercial use" along the top and when I try a back up Incremental is still disabled. My license code is now showing though. I must have done something wrong but am at a loss to know what. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Peter. I don't particularly want to fully uninstall as I had hoped to retain my existing settings. If I uninstall, I would lose them. That's why I tried Alexhousek's method because he reported that it saved his settings. EDIT Have now reinstalled and settings are all saved! Thanks again.
Cache, there will be a "Keep existing settings" offer during the uninstall... you should be able to carry that over to the PAID install.
...and the reason I bought it. Ran a full backup 2 days ago, 300 GB used on my drive. Ran an incremental today. 2 minutes 45 seconds.
It doesn't say on the announcement... my guess, Monday COB (Close of Business) so they can include "Cyber Monday" <duh>.
Now that I am up and running with the Home version, is there any advice as to how I should make use of the extra features. I have been making a Full image every four weeks and a Differential one every intervening week. I have also been backing up my folders with Karen's Replicator every week. Daily incremental images are a possibility but I'm not sure that I need daily backups particularly as I do them manually to a removable hard drive and I suspect that I would find this a bit tedious.. I haven't investigated the file and folder back up yet but it seems that this would be a good addition on a weekly basis to complement my Replicator BUs.
The following additional coupon code is also being offered (on FaceBook) for the same deal... don't know the expiration. Coupon Code: EFY-STV-LZD
Hello, Just noticed that my Volume Shadow Copy Startup Type was Manual. Macrium afaik has not reported VSS errors. Black Viper reports VSS Manual as Default. My Macrium backups are manual. Is VSS at Manual okay.
Thanks, a few days ago I updated 1511 to 1607 and since I noticed a few of my settings had changed. Just wanted to check, as I did not recall for certain, my VSC Startup Type. Thanks
i do a full backup every friday night during idle time just after 23:00, and an incremental every other night, and then macrium is set to turn off the PC, and i keep two sets, ie 2 fulls and their associated incremental backups. if i screw up something it's a lot easier and quicker in the long run to restore from the image that to use MS's restore points to restore last nite's image. especially with the boot menu option, don't even need a CD or usb recovery drive. with the delta imaging my last macrium restore took just over two minutes. i back up to a second hard disk, then use a freeware sync program to automatically sync the backup files to a 500gb usb3 'passport' drive, which has saved my bacon a few times. you could use the macrium option to copy the backup to your usb drive, but i find the sync program ensures the usb always is exactly the same as my internal drive's macrium backup folder, deletes as well as adds. in any case, i have very little to do to keep it going without 'tedious' intervention or maintenance. it just works. i found incrementals to be more space efficient as differentials just keep getting bigger and bigger till you replace them with a new full. two weeks worth of images has always been enough if i had to revert to one of them, as in when my ssd died a couple months back, i was back on line in a half hour or so after the replacement arrived. (did need the usb thumb recovery boot for that one)
I'm guessing if they give the same benefit, the different codes help differentiate what venue their user base/customers use.
