Is anyone else seeing error 0x1f4 from occasionally when a scheduled backup tries to run on Windows 10 version 1607 build 14393.222? This has recently started to happen for me. I click run now on my schedule and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I have never seen that. No-one else has replied to you, so maybe you should post that question on the Macrium forum. I am sure they can help.
I submitted a ticket. The development team have identified the problem and it will be fixed in a future release.
Guys- Quick question using Macrium V6 with incrementals, RDR, and Delta Indexing. In my example, I have a bunch of daily incrementals with RDR and Delta Indexing set for a synthetic full every 15 days. So, in my backup folder I have my synthetic full along with 15 incrementals. I can go back in this example a maximum of 15 days to the baseline. Now, I restore back 2 incrementals... but I don't delete them, since I may want to return to them in the future. Question 1 - My next scheduled incremental... will it fork off the last incremental that I just restored to (2 days old) and ignore the two that I skipped? If so, how does it know to do that? Question 2 - If it does use the one that is 2 days old, once that next incremental is taken, can I ever use the ones that I forked off? (ie: the one from 1 day ago) I am asking because I believe all of the previous files in a chain will get modified once that next incremental is taken since the synthetic baseline will change. SteveG
ans.1. it doesn't fork, you can always go back the number of incrementals you have retained, unless you manually delete one and break the chain. it will do an incremental off the last one, which includes all the changes from the full and last incr. since you restored, both adds and deletes, then carries on till you have your 15th session and do a another synthetic full that incorporates all the changes & you start over. so ans. 2 is yes, you can use the old incremental. note: there is a setting to delete files either before or after the triggering backup once you hit the numerical limit on full and/or incrementals) if you delete any backups, always use the macrium program to do it, not windows file manager, which may invalidate the chain's index file & cause an error.
Yeah, but big difference between macrium and FB. Macrium is reliable. I've wanted FB to work, but it has always failed at least once
Taotoo & Wayne- Thanks for the responses! So, just to make sure I am thinking straight... if I load a program with a virus on Tuesday, find out about it on Wednesday, go back two incremental images and restore (so I am now at the same drive condition I was at on Monday), my next incremental on Thursday will be the difference between Wednesday and Monday (since drive condition after the restore is equal to Monday). Then I guess I need to mark the Tuesday and Wednesday incrementals somehow as bad, since if I ever reverted to them again in the future, they would give me back the virus... Or I can consolidate them into Thursday via the program so they are gone for good. Do I have it correct?
Did you create the incremental on Tuesday before or after "getting the virus"? - If before, revert to Tuesday, and delete the incremental for Wed. - If after, revert to Monday and delete incrementals for Tue & Wed You don't want to keep an incremental containing the virus. Use Reflect to delete the files. Of course it all depends on what the virus has done to your system. You may need to go back to an off-line backup that the virus couldn't access. J
Hi jwcca- Thanks! Actually I have no virus. This was just an example to understand that nuance of handling the revert. For some reason, I was under the impression that once I reverted, Macrium would be smart enough to fork the path... like Comodo or Rollback used to do. Since it doesn't fork, I would follow your recommendation so I do not have an incremental that could accidentally put me back in the "virus" state. However, I might want to keep the "infected" incrementals for a while in case files were needed... so it would be nice to be able to label them. Regards, SteveG
hi with macrium rescue cd , can i image several drives or partition at the same time? about incremental-delta restore , is present on the linux based ? thanks
hi there is image for windows or linux (amazing fast it include a partition tool) can restore only the changed sectors it works with not all the ssd
Mantra, you may image with the Recovery Media just as you can with the LIVE version. As Peter has said, there is NO LINUX RECOVERY MEDIA available for Reflect v6.
if you had a virus i'd do a new full & delete the old possibly contaminated chain, thus starting clean rather than take a chance. i suspect if you consolidated on thursday with a new backup it would take account of the new clean drive, but why worry. at least delete the earlier tuesday & wed incrementals and do a new incremental just in case.
In case anyone is on the fence in purchasing, there is a Black Friday sale ongoing, for 30% off of Macrium. Coupon code: ET6-HZ4-F8U I am moving on from my last backup software to this.
That's a good deal, waylo. Incidentally, I just cloned my laptop hard drive with Reflect onto a new SSD. PERFECT!
