"Office Depot allegedly falsely diagnosing computers as malware-infested to meet sales" https://www.neowin.net/news/office-...&utm_campaign=Feed: neowin-main (Neowin News)
@hawki That's pretty much what I've seen with less computer-savvy people. Between horrible engineering by Microsoft, malfeasance by tech support companies, and the continued existence of the "computer security" industry, Windows seems to be getting increasingly unusable for anyone who isn't a supergeek. And indeed, I've been seeing a bunch of random people talk about switching to Linux lately. One more thing to add to the whirlpool of suck that is the year 2016.
I saw this on the local news, with the Office Depot "experts" in action. It made me want to smack the TV, they were so full of it. It was so obvious.
This is why it is good to educate yourself. If you listen to others, your fuel injectors are always dirty and your PC is always infested with malware.
With this story, the scam was linked to improving in-store sales on computers and accessories. Big Box stores like Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy have used some slimy tactics. Does upper management see/condone/encourage this--oops, we're outed, now we will look into this outrage right away, you have our solemn promise!
