I just installed a couple of days ago the Total Security Essentials v.8.8.1020. A lot of settings to pick through...but can be trimmed down easily with no nags to what you want. Haven't seen any popups or prompts to upgrade. Frankly, I like it. :) I'm not a big fan of AV's in general, but this one may be suitable for someone like me.
As to it's first scan, it found a lot of shortcuts (.INK) files what it said were suspicious...now that one was surprising. Had to manually OK each one to keep any more of those coming up. They were located in my 'Quick Launch' and some programs are not installed as of yet.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64 on a Dell XPS 8900...and the AV installed to x86 program folder. No big deal frankly with me. I don't even know if it had 64 which I doubt.
In my opinion it looks and acts good so far. (3 Days).

Using it: liking it. Light on W10 laptop - no problems.

This is still lacking IMO. It, even after I marked some URL (shortcuts) in my 'Quick Launch" on Win 7 Pro 64, it still, on next quick scan puts them with the warning ! and they are only URL shortcuts...also it is time consuming to clear them and to make a whitelist is also a time consuming hassle. Best to not scan if some URL shortcuts are valid and some not valid...but WHY URLs?? They are not any of them sites that are questionable.
Just don't know about this one...

Does 360 Essentials have a behavior monitor or HIPS component? Also, are there any behavior monitors that are not compatible with 360 Essentials?

Q Essentials is the same as Q Total Security as far as protection modules are concerned.

What settings would you guys suggest for my wife's laptop so that it doesn't annoy her unnecessarily with popups?

it would be nice if @cruelsister could test it to see if and how it is different from 360ts :)

AFAIK, TSE is ads-free... :) But there are some false positives (a lot of FP on some machines) due to 'paranoid' built-in QVMII engine. Unfortunately, you can't (officially) switch it off. Just dirty hack, if you really need.

    OK thanks :)
For what I remember, TSE just had an ad after completing a scan (which is absolutely fine in my opinion), while TS had some ads in the toolbox window and also some nag popup from time to time

Speaking honestly, I don't recommend TS to install. There are some reasons to think so:
    1. Ads.
    2. A lot of useless 'bells & whistles' like optimizers, boosters and so on, which work not so good sometimes...
TSE looks much better - it's more AV, than optimizer. :)

    I agree with you :)
But according to cruelsister's tests, TS performs better than TSE in malware blocking...

    @imuade:
You often post second hand news, from softpedia...
Please link to the vendors homepage, or leave it.

I'm sure that what Hiltihome meant, is that it's better to link to the post from Qihoo's website, as it is the original source of the information.

I'm not using all these apps, I just check softpedia to see the new updates, that's why.
By the way, if people think this way is not good, I'll stop doing so, no problem
