I have Google set as my homepage, but lately it has been loading slower due to http://gstatic.com.
I realize that it is connected with Google, but is there any way to disable it? Google doesn't access Gstatic every time I open Google, but it does every now and then, and when it does it causes a slow down.

    I primarily use Firefox.

You could install uBlock Origin addon and block gtstatic there.

    www.gstatic.com is driving me crazy.
It is still slowing down Google.

Edit: I think it may be working with ABP. I will give it some time.
    I added:
    ssl.gstatic.com

After testing for a couple of weeks, I can confirm that blocking the above stops Google slow downs. :thumb:

    Does it also break anything?

No. I have not noticed anything different except for Google loading a lot faster.

I have researched Gstatic a bit, and it appears that it's for Googles benefit, not ours.

    No problem.
Block them and see the benefits for yourself.
You can easily remove them whenever you want.

What about reCAPTCHA? Does is it work when you block gstatic.com?

gstatic.com is needed for recaptcha (script+css). If it's blocked, no captcha can be solved
    Code:
    script -- https://www.gstatic.com/recaptcha/api2/ ...
    css -- https://www.gstatic.com/recaptcha/api2 ...

And if you login to Gmail with your browser, many objects are missing, making it unusable.
