Hi @ Wilders I use Win 10, Tinywall BitDefender Free, & NVRT. For some time now I have been having a problem with TinyWall in that when I try to change the mode by right clicking I get the error message "Cannot communicate with the Service..." or something similar. I know other people have had it but I have never seen anyone say they have resolved it. I wrote to the developer but he is obviously busy since I got no reply. It does not happen every time but it is quite irritatingly frequent. Can anyone with knowledge help point me on a resolution. Thanks Terry

This happens on W10 every once in a while; I've seen it quite a few times on my W10 Home system. It has nothing to do with any other soft - it's all TinyWall.
Hello Terry, I just ignore\tolerate it - as it hasn't been too bothersome\annoying for me. Let me put it to you this way - I do a lot of malware testing. TinyWall does such a good job that I had to remove it - because it interferes with testing.
I had to uninstall TW. I can not have users blocked from internet just because they are not admin. Please fix this issue if possible. Thanks!
I don't know what NVRT is, but I also use TinyWall and Bitdefender Free on Win 10, and I haven't had any problems. In TinyWall, I have application exceptions for gziface.exe and gzserv.exe, "allow outgoing udp and tcp traffic".

Not sure if this thread is still active, but I have a simple question to ask, maybe someone can help. I'd like to block an application from accessing the internet save for a specific port or socket whatever it's called. All I know about it is -- 127.0.0.1:9339. What do I need to enter in the TCP and UDP fields, In and Out. 4 - fields for 'Allow Only specified ports'. Am I missing something, does it need any other information?
The address 127.0.0.1 is called localhost/loopback address. You can't control "remote" IP's with TinyWall. Also as far as I know windows firewall can't filter that address. If this is only a port question, you can enter 9339 in Out TCP and Out UDP fields. If a field is left blank no port is allowed and with * every possible port number is allowed.
Oh, now I see. I was under the impression all four fields must have numbers. Thanks for clearing that up.
I feel like I'm the odd man out cause I can't find anyone else with this issue. Whenever I try to change something in TinyWall I just get a popup that says "the configuration has changed, please enter your changes again" and nothing that I changed in the Manage screen actually changes. Whitelisting does not actually whitelist any programs and they continue to be blocked. Even when I try to disable TinyWall, it still doesn't allow any connections.
I have been thinking about my problem with tiny-wall asking for admin password. Might this be the service account that runs the TW service not having enough rights? What privileges does that account need? I have never changed anything.
Yes it could be that. There is the Elevate option, but that too requires the admin password, so no help for you in that. Many people here in wilders run under admin account, I don't. Only W7 standard user account. And I seldom install much new software and have not found the need to give admin account password to TinyWall when I do. Some programs I might have also installed under admin account, when suspecting standard user account might be not with enough rights, but they usually anyways ask the admin prompt and standard user account should be fine then. TW does not give a such popup to me except a few times under some extra ordinary circumstances maybe 2 times I mentioned previously I have seen it. And both times I have uninstalled TW and reinstalled it. Makes me feel more secure than accepting such a popup. I'm sorry I can't give you any more help on this subject.
I can add that the elevation prompt wants to run TinyWall.exe /install. If I do not grant this, network access is blocked completely.
I reinstalled windows 10 from scratch. Then installed TW. Made all settings manually so no import/export of settings. The problem remains.

You have a Win10 computer you installed back to so called factory settings? If there is a bios hack already, I'm not sure even that could help. What I've been reading, it is a problem you have because other family members wanting to install software with their SUA accounts. That is also a possibility to take into account, that some software goes messing up the TinyWall install. Or some software installed when you bought the computer, though I think it hardly unlikely. Since your posts came here, I also got maybe 2 weeks ago such a popup 3rd time in my usage ever for my normal SUA account and I'm certainly not sure if my computer is not hacked. Happened after I started my PC and I had not installed any possible culprit except maybe windows update. It helped in my case to restart my W7 computer, after reboot TW did not anymore give that popup. There are exploits around and I hardly ever touch TinyWall UI. It could be wise after installing a new program and whitelisting it to internet to shut down the computer and restart. And before installing any to reboot computer before. We need more input from other users to know better. If it is some malware/hacking doing it. It has not been a problem for me, except as mentioned. Best wishes.
Jarmo, thanks for all the feed back! My 6 YoL ssd died so that´s why I reinstalled windows and I thought to try TinyWall again. I love it! What I do is, install W10 with a local account (admin). Remove one drive and all telemetry. Then set up a user account (mine, for me), and a guest account (for guests). Now, when I log on with my normal user account, TinyWall wants admin privileges (UAC prompt). That´s fine, I can give it this. But I do not want to give my guests the admin pass. And this behavior reoccurs almost every day. Jarmo, your post got me thinking. I might have software installed that modifies the host file and/or sets windows firewall rules. TinyWall might not like that. But shouldt Tinywall be able to reset hosts file / FW rules without UAC prompt? Thanks
Your guess is just as good as mine for the lack of knowledge how TinyWall protects Windows firewall and prevents modifications to it from other software. Now I don't use hosts file blocking from TW or even malware known ports. W7 as i think W10 too has admin, standard user and quest accounts. Myself using nothing else but admin and mainly SUA for the normal running of my computer. The quest accounts I don't use. As I told it has happened, but very seldom to get that UAC prompt from windows to TW. Maybe it is the quest accounts you use? Just a thought. Could be anything.
I have Windows 7 and have been trying to make a shareable folder for hours and have read many forums and eventually got here. Just read this post and do understand it. So tinywall enables file and printer sharing, ok, so how do I make a folder shareable, tinywall prevents this. If I uninstall tinywall, it works just fine. Is there anyway to add some rule to allow folder sharing?
