does it contain (or same) technologie of "Web Companion" )? then i consider it as a potential system crasher and troublemaker. read too much pain with it.

I contacted them and asked what it is in it for me. There is nothing in it for anyone except the pleasure to help, is the result of that communication.

Then i am not interested, i have more rewarding things to do with my time.

Windows don't like the file. maybe because it is signed my Lavasoft? plus it requires a reboot.

There is a new beta version of adaware now and this problem should be fixed.

According to information in the forum, they are giving away 1 year licenses of Ad-Aware Pro to the testers that are most active and contributes best: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?/topic/34671-download-ad-aware-12-beta-here/#entry151017

Yes, MOST ACTIVE AND CONTRIBUTES BEST, for the rest, NOTHING. Not even a short term licens or a discount coupon for the future. The word cheap comes to mind.

As i said, i can do more rewarding things with my time - then working for free.

Due to the low activity in the forum, I guess it can't be that difficult to be one of the most active that contribute a lot.

You do not see it, what i mean is that there is no gradient in the reward of effort. Either you are all in and get rewarded or you do little and get nothing at all.

Take Zemana for example, when they wanted help with the development of their product - Zemana antimalware - they gave everyone who helped out a free lifetime license. Do you think people helped! I guess you did not have to think twice on that one, huh. I put in about 5-6 hours in that job. If they really want help they of course have to be generous with the feedback. It would cost them a lot to hire people for the same help, now they want it practically for free. Bad PR and marketing if you ask me. If a mediocre product like Ad-Aware Av wants to go "big" they have to act accordingly, dont be cheapish, otherwise there will not be a rush to help out. Duuh!

I know i could help them with some thing worth about 8-10 hours, that is a lot of money on the free market, or value in help.

Maybe there is a reason for the "low" activity.

Lastly: i wish them good luck with the effort of becoming better and hope they succed in that. Competiton on the Av market benefits all of us users.

I'm trying to install this now on one of my laptops without success. When I open the installer, it downloads an updater which is used to download adaware, but gets no further than that. Adaware have not provided a download link for the offline installer for v12 yet, so for now, I won't be trying this new version.

On my main laptop it downloads and runs the updater, but I don't want to install adaware on that computer just yet.

I installed ths on my main laptop last night in compatible mode, where it can run alongside other antivirus software. The initial update took over twenty minutes to complete. Maybe their servers are being overloaded with people updating to the new version. When I downloaded the offline installer (which turned out to be for v11) the download speed was very slow, even with a download manager.

On the scan results window, the filename of each detected threat is only partially visable, which is annoying. However, if you move the mouse pointer over the filename, it does show the complete filename.

Threats can only be excluded manually, which is a dealbreaker for me. While you can set the action for a file to "ignore" on the scan results window, it doesn't whitelist the file, and the file will be detected again the next time you run a scan. Also, there is no option to whitelist files when restoring them from quarantine.

Do you have a lot of malware on your computer all the time? ;) I confirm that first update was slow, I guess that's because of 500 MB Bitdefender signatures. I wish other free AV would have a simple and clean GUI like Ad-Aware as well: No launcher, no pop ups, no fat ads!

I have no actual malware on my system. But, I do have some PUPs that I use, as well as installers for other PUPs I test from time to time.

Because Bitdefender does really badly at detecting PUPs, there is very little that gets detected. But still, it would be nice to able to easily ignore anything I want to keep, rather than manually having to do so.

Check the tests from this guy:

    AV performance test

    AM detection/removal test

I wonder why Ad-aware is so underestimated...

I'm using this at the moment. When I installed the free version, I got an upgrade offer to buy the pro version with three license keys, for the price of one. I bought it and installed on two devices. The initial definition update took a while for me as well.

I don't mind their adblock extension, which comes with a popup blocker.

I'm done with this product. You have to manually update every time you turn on your computer, else you will be browsing the internet with outdated signatures. I'm moving on to the new version of Advanced SystemCare Ultimate.

This is what happened years ago when AdAware dealt with adware only. But then it didn't update for months & months. Then Spybot Search & Destroy was born from this void & dominated this space for ~10yrs+.
