Whenever you notice a small halt during installation of Windows Defender signatures, it is due to the downloaded update containing more then one signature package.

Usually this will be the NIS signatures for the Network Inspection Engine.
They are separate from the Antimalware/Antispyware signatures.

The update process will be done in steps with a tiny pause between, since it is installing separate packages for separate engines.

I think Microsoft is working on a big UI update for Defender. It was shown very quickly in today's event.

Will they improve the Scanning Speed of WD?

 

I certainly hope they do more than just give it a facelift.

 

As someone who chooses to keep Defender in order to appease Windows 10 (doesn't always work), seriously, yes! Though, I'd gladly forfeit a little scanning speed for better detection ability.

I don't know but I would think a full scan is only needed if you are already infected.

Yes, but you can shorten the scan time if exclude certain file extension ie .ini. iso
maybes mp3 etc cant remember used to have big list at one time.

 

the current UI is pain - to reach logs and exceptions - and the current state of UI is not saved.

 

What you are not mentioning is that the new creators build of WD will include firewall and network protection. it will be not an av anymore but rather a suite. plus computer health and performance.

I have doubts about that. Just because it shows firewall status on the GUI doesn't necessarily mean it has an integrated firewall.

Yeah, Windows has an integrated firewall. I doubt though that WD will get one built in.
