I see, but every .com file I have seen will not execute on Windows 7, 8, 10... do you have one that does execute so we can test to be sure?

That test basically drops a .com file to see if the scanner detects the file. You can try the same test with other security products and you should have the same result.

Let me see what I can do... I will try to find a good .com file for testing. Thank you!

No and the stupid thing is that when you open just Nitro Reader it is protected, but when you open a pdf file you need nitrop~4 as additional web app...
Edit: when you go to details of NitroPDFReader.exe you see NITROP~4.EXE but only if you open a pdf file.

Sounds good, we can modify this... maybe if there is only one monitor, then the menu is not auto positioned at the bottom right... but if there was more than one monitor, it would be positioned at the bottom right... would that be cool? We could have the menu show up in relation to the gadget every time, but that could get a little tricky if the user has the gadget in a weird position on their screen. Please let me know what you guys think... it will be an easy fix once we figure out a good game plan. Thank you!

Yeah, I am not exactly sure what all the real time scanner is going to scan yet. Right now it scans everything, so I need to limit it some because we do not want to scan the entire drive (for a lot of reasons). That was the other reason I have not activated it yet ;). I basically just want VS to monitor certain folders so it can detects even before pre-execution. Thank you!

On that note, it seems batchfiles (.bat) aren't scanned either. Would it be possible to include those as well?

Sorry about this... I am trying to get "NITROP~4.EXE" to spawn so I can make sure it is working correctly, but I am unable to get NITROP~4.EXE to start. Can you please tell me your exact procedure to get "NITROP~4.EXE" to show up in the task manager? Also, what is the path of "NITROP~4.EXE"? Also, when I try to scan for additional web apps, it does not find any. Thank you!

Yeah, .bat files are scanned with the blacklist scanner... and if it is a .bat file that has been scanned before (and is determined to be clean), it will be auto allowed. Like if you have a .bat file that is simply "ping www.google.com", it will be auto allowed (if VS is in Smart / OFF or AutoPilot mode). If VS is ON, then it should be blocked and scanned either way.

Did you encounter something that was not scanned? If so, please let me know, thank you!

Open a pdf document with Nitro reader.
In the task manager you see Nitro Reader 5.
    Right click the entry.
You get the option for details.
In the tab details of the task manager you see NITROP~4.EXE
On my VoodooShield white list the path is c:\progra~1\nitro\reader~1\nitrop~4.exe, faae53f0eb4b1560070ca3a6ed99bdddd883a9915a221418dc98dc1a43ce74f1
If not completely clear (english not my first language and my windows 10 is in dutch) I can make some screenshots.

@VoodooShield the only thing I see different now.

When you open the VS Tray Menu it's stuck in the Right Corner now and this is the first version that it doesn't follow the Tray Icon or I should say it use to open over the Tray Icon?

This is a design change to accomodate multiple monitors and preventing the icon from appearing on one screen and the menu appearing on another, but it's proving to be controversial....

    Many thanks Dan

3.45 is running smoothly and updated as always like a dream. I am finding the VS right click scan from Windows Explorer that you introduced in 3.44 particularly useful.

Maybe this can be made as an option in settings?

I am being prompted for chrome.exe each time I open Chrome, but I believe it is actually Norton Toolbar (Stand-alone version) being blocked, not Chrome. This is only happening on one machine.

As soon as I allow it the Norton Toolbar appears.

Cool, thank you, it will be included in the next release. It turns out, this only happens on Windows 10 for some reason, thank you!

Sorry about the right click menu confusion ;). It will actually be really easy to fix permanently once we figure out exactly what we want to do.

What I did in the meantime is this... if you only have one monitor, then the right click menu will be like it was before. If you have multiple monitors, the menu will be on the bottom right of the main monitor. This might be the best way to go, but let me know what you guys think. I can try to figure out a way for the menu to always be close to the gadget (even if there are multiple monitors), but this might be difficult because someone might put the gadget in a really odd location, and the right click menu would be off of the screen.

I also fixed a small bug with VS running in VirtualBox... the desktop shield gadget would not always refresh properly after flashing when running on VirtualBox, but it is fixed now.

So here is the version with these 2 fixes... they were very minor changes, so I kept the version 3.45, thank you!

Thank you for letting me know... what is VS blocking? A command line or a process? Can you please tell me which one?

Yeah, we might have to make this an option... that would be the easiest way, but hopefully we can find a way to do it automatically that everyone is happy with. Thank you for the suggestion!

Newest VS 3.45 Working good here.

I like the new placement of the right click menu. Would it be easy to make it moveable like the shield? That way if something not moveable is blocking part of it, we can move the right click menu.

It looks like a process. Chrome is opening, VS prompts to allow chrome.exe, I allow and the Norton Toolbar appears along the top of Chrome.

Edit: Here is Win10 Task Manager.

Now there is an idea, that might be really cool! That way users can put it where they want. The only thing is that I am not sure if users would realize that you can move the menu... that is really cool though.

I kind of liked the menu at the bottom right because it seemed to be more refined to me... like that is pretty much what most software does. But I can see how if the gadget is not too close to the bottom right, it might not be optimal.

Anyway, thank you for the suggestion, it is really cool!
