VoodooShield/Cyberlock

When you re-install VoodooSoft the driver is overwritten, so you can de-install VoodooShield and you are done (no need to do anything special). When you permanently stop using VoodooShield,, do the following:

Install the (Microsoft) Sysinternals utility AUTORUNS De-install VoodooShield, after restart run Autoruns and look for a driver from VoodooSoft (in Windows subfolder). Right click on this driver, choose (go to) Image and Windows Explorer launches, delete the old driver, return to Autoruns and delete the autorun-entry also.

    hi Dan,
I sent you an email to ask about double pro licenses. I have 2 pro licenses, both got from giveaways. I would like to ask if I can merge them into 1
    Thank you

    Hi,

I restored from image and it now has VS 3.31 on it. The drive by download test site also brought out Windows Defender to remove it. VS was on Smart (ON) because I was using my browser, but it did not come to the rescue.

So I turned off Windows Defender's real time option. And retested, FireFox now stops downloading when I click Cancel on the download dialog. Last time when I clicked Cancel on the download dialog - it downloaded anyway. But this time it didn't - strange. It was the same version of FireFox 49.0.1 .

Anyways, the saved file 'eicar.com' sat in the Downloads folder. So I double clicked on it, and SRP came to the rescue preventing execution.

So somewhere in between 3.31 and 3.44 VS stopped the download. And I don't have all the in between versions to test, since I didn't save them before re-imaging.

    Hi All

It seems that I can't automatically download 3.44 (when selecting "Update Check" it seems that I am running the latest version). Is this normal? (Free vs license)
I am happy to download manually but just wanted to make sure if automatic updates are supported

    Thanks

You won't get auto updates untill it's released! It's still in beta for now.

Very cool, thank you for catching that! I noticed something very similar at 3:00am last night, and I started to check it out, but I was too tired. So I have been working on it this morning, and I think I am close to getting it fixed. So 343 worked, but then it quit working in 344? Please let me know because that will be a lot of help.

The other small bugs you guys have mentioned are fixed... the multi monitor right click menu issue, the command line refresh issue, and I think a couple of others. There is one more thing I need to figure out as well on the "file does not exist or access denied" issue. Thanks again for catching that!

Dan, you are doing great work with VS!

    #12470

Is the dismhost.exe issue resolved, or is this a different bug?

FYI, Since I installed 3.44 on my machine so far VS has worked perfectly and no freezes. This machine has what's in my signature installed - so no Norton. ;)

Here is 3.45… I think all of the issues are fixed, but if you guys find anything else, please let me know!

@lunarlander… thanks again for point this out. It was similar to the issue that I found last night, but it was not the same issue. It is hard to explain, but this is expected behavior, although I am not sure why the previous version of VS blocked this… is it possible that it blocked something else at the same time? Basically, if there would have been an executable payload, VS would have blocked it. I ran this test with a lot of different security products, and they reacted the way I expected them to. Basically, if they had a blacklist realtime folder scanning component, then the file was quarantined… btw, I hope to be able to activate VS’s realtime blacklist / VoodooAi component soon (which will quarantine the file)… I wrote the code for that several months ago, but then I became preoccupied with the freeze issue. Also, there might be one other thing I can do that will be pretty cool, but I am certain that we are good to go either way. I will play around with it a little more and see what I can do.

BTW, the issue I found last night is fixed… I won’t even bother going into details ;).

So as I was saying before, I think all of the issues are fixed. A couple of small notes… on the multiple monitor right click menu issue, what I did was to always make the right click menu appear at the bottom right of the main monitor… I think this is good to do anyway, to me it seems more refined then having the right click menu appear in random locations. One other quick note… the command line refresh is fixed (I think anyway), and I also made it so that if you double click on one of the command lines, it will bring up the edit screen.

I almost forgot to mention... on the "File is inaccessible or no longer exists" bug... I think this is fixed as well. What is happening, for example, dismhost.exe will make a copy of itself in a different location, then later delete the copy (and it is not only dismhost that does this). Well, in the last version or 2, I thought it would be a good idea to prompt the user when this happens, but apparently I was wrong ;). So we have 2 choices when this happens... either automatically block the file, which is what I did for 3.45, or automatically allow the file. It probably will not matter either way, since the file no longer exists, but I thought I would play it safe and choose to automatically block the file. So anyway, if you guys see anything strange, please let me know, it will be easy to fix.

I was going to try to catch up on the posts this weekend, but once again several small issues came up that I really wanted to fix.

Thanks again for all of your guys help, I really appreciate it!

Real quick... hey Krusty, this should be fixed in 3.45, it is not the same dismhost issue as before... I explained a little more about it in the above post.

I will catch up on the other posts soon... I just saw this one and it was a quick answer ;).

But '.com' is an executable file extension, or do you mean VS examined the file's header ti determine that it was not a real executable file ?

If that is not something that VS should be taking action upon, can you give me something to prove that VS is functioning ? Right now it is just a pretty icon sitting on the desktop. I need something to show my clients that this is worth the install.

Hi Dan .. Installed 3.45 and all seems ok..
But personally I don't like that the right click menu now always appears at the bottom-right of the screen.
I preferred it to open at either the tray icon or at the shield gadget (depending on which i selected to right click on)
...plus, the bottom-right of the screen seems to be the default for alerts/pop-ups from most security softs, and they can often impede the view and access of each other..
    Thanks Dan

I agree, it is especially odd if you've relocated the desktop gadget to somewhere other than it's default, say top left, and right clicking brings up the menu in the bottom right!- very disorientating.

Hi Dan, just wish to say that you have done a smashing job with fixing the freeze issue. Since the freeze issue has been fixed I have not had any reoccurrence.

    Thank You:)

Is there a possibility this could conflict with any other real-time scanner a user has running on their system?

    Hi Dan

Hope that you are well? 3.45 installed here (over the top) and all seems to be running fine as per usual. Will advise if I do spot anything untowards...but I am not expecting to.

    Regards, Baldrick

Before I forget, Gandalf_The_Grey, NitroPDFReader.exe is working on my end correctly with the web apps. When you launch the program, what is the process name in the task manager? Mine is NitroPDFReader.exe. Thank you!

    I'm using VS 3.45.
    I have 2 questions:
1/ RIght-click to VS trayicon -> the popup menu doesn't appear in the correct position. BTW, I don't feel it annoying
2/ When I save settings, it takes quite a long time. I think it's a bug as it shouldn't be that long (more than 20 seconds if I'm not mistaken). My laptop uses core i7

the rest, I have no complaint. VS works perfectly :thumb:

Mine is also NitroPDFReader.exe but not detected as running web app.
Scanning for additional web apps gives me nitrop~4
When I add that as web app it shows as protected (blue icon).
