Auslogics Anti-Malware 2016

What engines does it use? Another Bitdefender?

 

Tried it yesterday...It contains these nice little additions among its files ( GASender.exe and GoogleAnalyticsHelper.dll) if you try to delete or block them it breaks it and after uninstall they still remain in hidden files (temp directories) and I needed to use unlocker to get rid of them.


Oh, it uses Avira defs.

 

I have trialed several versions of this since it was first released. I was never particularly impressed with it, as I presumed they were using their own definitions, as they don't state otherwise. However @clubhouse1 stated they are using Avira's engine, and right now I am trying it again. I don't know why I never bothered to check the definitions myself.

Edit: I just installed it again, and am not impressed. Cookies are rated as being a moderate threat and given a rating of 3 out of 5 stars, which seems a bit excessive. You can't perform context menu scans. Also, there is no option to scan specific folders within the program. So for example you can't do a scan just of your downloads folder.

Also, as well as not recommending it, I will add that Auslogics is an untrustworthy company.

GUI reminds me about infamous Advanced System Protector by Systweak.

 

Yes it looks similar. But at least this one doesn't give false positives - despite being releaed by an equally shady company.

 

Thanks, I try to avoid Softpedia (doesn't run well on Opera 12), so this sure did help.

But the GUI looks nice though.

 

Auslogics Anti-Mwlare is an on demand scanner using Avira's signatures, as well its own signatures for detecting tracking cookies. I don't recommend using it for the following reasons. Sometimes its signatures are a few days old. You can not select what folders are scanned (and there is no context menu scan). So, for example you can't scan just your downloads folder. Also, it lists any detcted tracking cookies as having a moderate threat level, no doubt to encourage people to buy the full version so they can remove any items found. The trial version can't remove anything.

I ran a scan this morning and found it to be quite amusing that the one of threats detected by Avira's signatures was "TR/Auslogics.kiion" as you can see in the screenshot below.



The software detected as being a trojan is Universal Driver Updater, which is a rebrand of Auslogics Driver Updater. While it's not actually a trojan, or malicious in anyway and at worst could be considered a PUP, I found it funny that Auslogics products are being detected as malicious by their own anti malware software.

I don't recommend using any of their software. Some of their products are simply not very good. For example, on my main laptop Auslogics Registry Cleaner finds over 19,000 problems with installed software. However, just about every single one of the problems detected is a false positive.



Also, they have created fake review sites to promote their TweakBit branded software.

 

Why is Auslogics untrustworthy? I don't know much about them.

Here are some examples:

They have created a fake review site, softwaretested.com to promoted their Tweakbit branded software. While the website is owned by Auslgogics, they make it appear to be an indepndent site.

A recent change is that Tweakbit products now come with a three month license instead of 12 months, which is set to auto renew at the end of the three months.

It would be very easy to miss reading the small print which mentions this. Also, they haven't lowered their prices, despite offering much shorter licenses now.

 

I love Softpedia. It runs grrrreat on K-meleon! Everyone to his own tastes, wot!

@anon They no longer use OpenCandy in their installers. When they stopped using it, they switched to bundling their own BoostSpeed software. However, you had to do a custom install if you didn't want BoostSpeed installed, otherwise it would be installed without telling you. I just launched a few Auslogics installers and it seems that they are no longer bundling BoostSpeed.

Auslogics still don't answer support emails. I emailed them some months back about false positives in their registry cleaner and received no reply.

 

I have tested driver updaters lately and Auslogics is the worst, Iobit hardly finds anything, but Auslogics recommends to install bad/wrong drivers instead.

Auslogics used to be great with their system optimization utilities, but now it tries to poke into everything, which resulted in half-baked products.

The way it is going, Auslogics will end up like TuneUp Utilities, either being sold or going bankrupt. Greed and lying does not pay off, in a long term.

 

I've found that it has a very large database of drivers which means that it is very good at finding driver updates. But, it does sometimes find incompatible drivers.

You can buy it much cheaper as Universal Driver Updater. Other than their driver update software, I find the rest of their software to be fairly average. As, I've already posted, their Registry Cleaner finds thousands of false postives on my main laptop.

I've found that IObit's Driver Booster, very rarely finds the wrong drivers, but they still need to add more drivers to their database.

 

I use Driver Easy, it is really free, which is uncommon among driver updaters, and finds everything, no issues thus far.

 

I use it too. But in my opinion DevID Agent is better. It also has a very large database of drivers, but unlike Driver Easy where the free version has slower download speeds and manual installation of drivers, it has no limitations and does do automatic driver installation, which is a feature only available in the paid version of Driver Easy.

 

Even Driver Easy Pro has been at least last 5 years for free.

 

No, it costs $29.95, but it is very occasionally available as a giveaway.

This was a comment that I made when Softpedia updated to a new look. A lot of people were disappointed, because the old look was handy and simple and worked great in older browsers like Opera 12. But I have to admit, that it does look pretty good.
