I just installed this version this morning then noticed...
... but when I tried to update I got an error.

I manually downloaded and installed Chrome over the top of the older version which gave me the newer version but still get the error checking for updates, so I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled, still the same error.

    Any ideas?

@Krusty13 Did you modify any of the services or scheduled tasks for Google Update / Chrome? That happened to me earlier today when I disabled the services and scheduled tasks.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this was a fresh Win10 install, but anyway I uninstalled Chrome again, ran CCleaner and installed Chrome and it looks like the issue has been resolved. Chrome now says I'm up to date.

    Cheers.

Sometimes when I get an error trying to update chrome, I close chrome, then I'll open the task manager and manually shutdown any google processes including any installer processes that are running, then reopen chrome and it always seems to work. Haven't run into this on 10 as I haven't been running my VM in some time, but on 7 it's worked every time that I can remember.

For sake of curiosity, I did end up following through with your suggestion of disabling the Google tasks and also disabled the two Google Update services. This brought back the UAC prompt as we would have expected, but it also caused manual Chrome updates (via chrome://help) to fail. I recall over the past few years, some users had mentioned disabling those services/tasks simply because they did not want automatic updates to Chrome and would prefer to update manually when they choose to. Now it appears that it will not work anymore to update manually (via chrome://help) when those Google Update services and tasks are disabled.

Either way, not too much of a concern for me anyway since I exclusively use Chromium. I just follow Chrome/Omaha updating mechanisms so that I can assist others but also out of curiosity to see how it was getting past UAC recently.

You can disable tasks, and set services on Manual. This way you will get UAC prompt, updates won't be installed automatically, but you will be able to run them from within Chrome. At least I've been doing it this way for some time now.

    Enterprise version (msi installers)

    dl.google.com/dl/chrome/install/googlechromestandaloneenterprise64.msi
    x86
    dl.google.com/dl/chrome/install/googlechromestandaloneenterprise.msi

Differences between Consumer and Enterprise versions
    1. Enterprise lands in Program Files (x86) even though x64 is used, while Consumer in AppData.
    2. In a multi-user scenario, msi installs Chrome for all users by default.

Here are a couple other features you should be aware of:
    1. If a user already had the Consumer version installed and you push out the Enterprise edition to their machine, the next time they launch the Consumer edition it will detect that the Enterprise edition is installed. After displaying an explanatory message to the user, the Consumer edition uninstalls itself, the user's Chrome shortcuts are updated and the Enterprise edition is launched.
    2. The user's personal settings from the Consumer edition will be picked up by the Enterprise edition, as long as the version number of the Enterprise edition is greater or equal to the Consumer edition.

Therefore, I recommend to install Enterprise on a clean fresh system.
Also I recommend Enterprise version for those who are using programs like AppGuard or ReHIPS which block running programs from AppData folder.

OK, thanks. I hardly use Chrome anyway. I think there was a fix in chrome:flags once. I just updated Chrome and thought that the fonts had got worse!

Google Chrome is up to date. With this update my page zoom of 150% is to big now. I have to set it at 125% or 110% now.

Had the same. I think it uses the zoom level of the OS now. Put it back to 100% and it is the same as 125% on the rest of my system.
The adres bar is also bigger now.
