What very good antivirus?

Hi,
I have used F-Secure but now it gives me some worries.
Can you rell me the name of some best antivirus now?
I will use it with Win XP and Eudora and I usually take many, many virus.
Therefore I neeed a very good antivirus.

Asking which is best is very subjective... Two of the leaders are Nod32 amd Kaspersky.

One way of looking for which anti-virus will suite your requirements is to take a look at www.virusbtn.com and then try a few of the anti-virus programs that take your eye, most have free trials for a period of time, usually 30 days...

Don't worry, F-Secure is strong enough.

 

F-secure is a fine antivirus, why not stick with it til your subsciption runs out, but if you want suggestions, try Kaspersky or Nod32, both good.

Most av's offer a trail,normally 1 month(kaspersky now 14days!) download some of the respected(have a look through posts in this forum to get an idea of which are best thought of) ones and try the trials(only one av at once otherwise you can cause conflict probs)to see which one YOU prefer and which one runs best on YOUR machine.
The one you prefer and runs well is the best for YOU,I know which ones I prefer but thats me using them on my machines,you might think they are rubbish

I like very much F-Secure but it recently have given me some problems.
In fact when I turned on my PC it jams my PC.
I see the jammed mouse arrow too.
When I unistall it, everything is OK. I thought it was firewall problem.
In fact I installed F-Secure without firewall but the problem was the same.
How ca I remove that problem?
I inform you I never had some problem with this antivirus.
I have also unistalled it and installed again but the problem is the
same.
I'd like very much to use F-Secure but I cannot.

 

I didnt hear DR WEB recommened here---shame on you---j/k This is a top notch program thats uses very little resources--unlike kaspersky and f-secure.

Even uses much less resources than nod 32 which used to use very little.


I have a amd 64 system with a bfg 5950-256 mg video card--with 768 of ram---and i still prefer to run lower resource antivirus on my comp--i noticed how kaspersky seem to lag my comp a little.


I do believe that kaspersky is the best antivirus on the market,but i have read alot on dr.web and now prefer it.

Its nice how some people display their machine configurations ? lol ..Isn't that a bad practice if you're talking about security ?

 

This has been suggested in other threads before, but I just don't see it as any sort of problem.

 

I presume the resource hit is what you don't like or is causing problems, F-Secure is a very very large resource hit, I suggest not using F-secure unless you have at least 384M of RAM, preferably 512. Almost anything else will use less RAM than F-Secure. As for detection, F-Secure is one of the AV's at the top of the heap. For less of a hit, try Kaspersky, NOD32, F-Prot, Command, Dr. Web etc. NOD and F-Prot are among the lightest for a resource hit and both give excellent detection.

 

I currently am using Trend Micro's Internet Security. So far, so good. If anyone thinks differently please let me know & why.

 

everyone in this thread knows more then i do about anti-virii, they know it, and so do i . but, do you run an anti-trojan? if not then KAV is very good. if you do, run an AT, then say which one you run, and the posters above will let you know which anti-virus goes well with it. if you decide on KAV tell them your system specs, because KAV5 slows even a good system and will really slow an old system. KAV 4.5 maybe the best bet, in that case.

PS i know DR WEB and mks_vir are top rate, but can you tell me how they compare with KAV regarding trojans? thanks

 

I use most all of the program out there, from Norton,Mcafee, NOD32, MKS-Vir, Kav Personnal, and Personnal PRO, Dr. Web, AVG, etc......... My 2 Top choice would be NOD32, and Kav Personnal Pro.

 

MKS-Vir is a very good program, but only,,,,ONLY, ONLY,,,,they can scan while in safe mode. I do most of scan in safe mode, tht's the way to make sure you find and get rid of Virus before they load up.

 

There is only one sure thing about AV's, "NONE ARE 100% EFFECTIVE".
Having said that you should trial different AV's and decide which one you are the most comfortable with on your comp and how well it works with your machine.
You have been given some very good recommendations here, so try them and decide for yourself.
I use MKS_vir, but all mentioned here are quality AV'S.

 

For good protection coupled with light use of resources: DrWeb or F-Prot -- both cost $29/year. Also good is Command, which uses the F-prot engine and (at the moment) costs only $20/year.

If in the past you have had serious encounters with trojans, then you should run BOClean *in addition to* whichever antivirus program you decide on. BOClean is light as a feather, simple to use, & gives industrial strength protection.

Some antiviruses have a pre-boot scan system (something like avast! Boot-Time scan). But it was more common in Win9x environment...

 

Do you really think some malware creating clown is going to target an individuals machine just because he knows the security apps installed and he may know some of those apps weaknesses:-somehow I dont think so:- it wouldn't cause enough problems to be worth it(I suppose they could steal credit card numbers etc but that can happen if you use them in shops whilst your present!)

 

Yeah I try MKS-Vir in safe mode on XP.

 

I'm a formor norton user. Then when liveupdate started crashing my computer, I started looking for another antivirus. For the last 3 months I've been using avast! free edition, and I really like it. I also run Boclean to catch any trojans. I also run 2 online scans per week to make sure nothing has got by avast.
