Haven't noticed anything like this on my machines really.. the desktop with the ssd is stupidly fast anyways so can't comment there but even on my slow laptops browsing is just fine really.

No, it's not discontinued but their software has always been full of bugs. However, after 2 years of Bitdefender Free they noticed that there is a new operating system called Windows 10. I wouldn't trust such a "security company" at all. :geek:

I wouldn't trust a company that puts backdoors in their software to spy on users. Why would you?

What BD did notice was that no one was using 10. Even now it barely registers as a market base with installs on a mere less than 400 million "devices." Only because MS suckered most of those millions into it. And some new PC sales, of course, a trivial metric being on the downturn for years.

They concluded the parasites would have to wait.

And those financially challenged could rely on bugless 10, the most secure and spy-free Windows there ever is.

Or one of the many others in the first-to-market race to offer no-cost totally bug free products.

Because no one else has buggy software, full of or not so full of. ~ Removed Off Topic Comment ~

No. What company would that be? Cite your sources. Thank you.

OMG!! What are we going to do now?!!!

Yes. The back doors in Bitdefender you alluded to in this Bitdefender thread. DUH.

Never mind. That was rhetorical. This bovine ordure ends here. Thank you.

I believe good folks overwhelmingly outnumber the bad ones.

And there are no back doors in Bitdefender and there never were.

I agree we must assume this. Presence of backdoors is a very serious accusation. It must be proved before laid on a company.

I never said anything about Bitdefender. Was obviously speaking about Microsoft. Haakon trusts MS, but not BD. LOL!

Out of curiosity I threw a threat on Bitdefender-free-beta.
BD stopped the threat, deleted the file on my usb-drive and put it into quarantaine.
BD did not ask for a reboot, but I did.

On reboot, prior to any windows sign, I saw a message like this:
"Your antivirus detected a threat and stopped it."
    "Threat removed"

I don't recall the exact text, because the message disappeared fast, but it was like above.

Seems like BD-free-2016 does a good job.

So by this time of the year I guess they will skip the 2016 release and probably just launch it as a 2017 product.

I think you should use first of all the uninstall tool for every BD product or BD free uninstalltool, than run the new install (beta 1.0.3.7)

What OS and what other security software are you running?
Did you apply tweaks, did you use tuning-tools, cleaners, or other crappy stuff?

You are a bit late..., this has been discussed often, in the past...
Bitdefender-free-AV (2014) will be discontinued, and replaced by 2016 version, that is currently in beta.
Probability they will name it 2017 version, but most likely it will have no year date.

No, none of those... only MBAM and Bitdefender free 2014. I disabled Bd free and installed Beta version in safe mode... installed fine... works fine.

Recently installed the 2014 free edition. Everytime I come out of sleep I get an annoying screen telling me that I'm protected. Can this be turned off?
    Thx
