I called Norton again and tried to explain..the guy said Norton would disable bit defender but i think he was thinking windows defender..Oh well..anyway I uninstalled it the first day and just Norton now.. https://manage.norton.com/?displang=eng&displocale=USA
Hi there, Sorry for the trouble. Can you please send your details through private message, I'll check that for you. Also our recent update conflicting with "Limited periodic scanning" please follow this instruction on how to disable it https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v118532580_EndUserProfile_en_us and see if that works? Please let us know how it goes. Praveen Norton Support.
Hi @NortonSupport /Praveen, As I mentioned elsewhere, there seems to be some confusion on your part regarding the difference between BitDefender and Windows Defender. Exactly what conflict occurs with Limited Periodic Scanning enabled and Norton Security? I have LPS enabled on both machines with Norton installed and have not seen any problem what so ever. Thanks.
Sorry for the confusion. My bad, I misunderstood the context so kindly ignore my previous message. It's not recommended to have more than one Anti-virus on the computer because it might conflict with each other, so kindly remove any one of the security program and see if that helps. Thanks! Praveen Norton Support.
Please tell support to create a custom installer for NS without the bloat. I don't want any optimizers, cloud storage, or toolbars, I don't want to see it in the GUI and don't want to be reminded about it. Otherwise it's an awesome suite but I stopped using my 2 year license because of the bloat and will never renew if Norton thinks they will give us all or nothing. I want to control what I have and what I install.

Why does Microsoft Windows Defender find threats and potentially unwanted applications that Norton doesn't?
Sounds like Norton needs to defend itself, against ascending Windows Defender. False positives, on quarantined files, seems not to be the main concern, but missing gray-ware and pups...
Norton Security is not specifically designed to detect PUPs and makes no claim that it does. It might catch non-hidden PUPS by preventing the download via it's Insight /Reputaion/Malicious Site Fetures. It also may catch PUPs that behave maliciously via it's Sonar feature. There are frequent posts on it's forum asking for help in removing PUPs -- mostly adware and scammer scareware. The only Security Programs that I am aware of that do include PUP/PUA real-time blocking or detection features are Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, and Emsisoft. There must be others that I am not aware of. For on demand PUP detection there are of course HitMam Pro, Malwarebytes Free, possibly Zemana/Watchdog Anti-Malware (not sure on this one)., and to some degree Webroot (effective against some malicious PUPs). Many Security Program vendors do not have the courage to aggressively go after PUPs because of the potential legal fall-out. Those that do are to be commended.
You used to be able to see this in the settings GUI. https://community.norton.com/en/comment/4814883#comment-4814883 ... And it's not like we haven't asked often enough. https://community.norton.com/en/search/site/pups?f[0]=im_field_thread_forum:2133
Add Bitdefender to the list of Security Programs detecting PUPs. "For security reasons, our product will detect such software[PUA/PUP], will warn you about its presence on the system, allowing you to take the action you want with that application..." http://www.bitdefender.com/support/what-is-a-pua-pup-software-1189.html Also, at least the 2014 versions of the following have been reported as detecting PUPs: McAfee, ESET, Kaspersky, AVAST, AVG. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2603...ially-unwanted-programs-pups-from-biting.html
I just received 22.8.0.50 via Live Update on my Norton machine. No Release Notes as of the time of this post. Thanks to @bjm_ for the heads up.
Here's the Release Notes. Please be aware of this crap though - https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...iscussion-thread.324841/page-467#post-2620783
Be aware that the Norton Removal Tool is now the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool. If you don't go into the advanced option it will reinstall Norton after uninstalling. I also noticed after removing it and then still doing my usual manual cleanup that it puts something in the Scheduled Tasks. I should have looked to see what the entry was but I opted to continue deleting and didn't check. Just something to look out for in case you weren't expecting it.
Norton AntiVirus Basic https://us.norton.com/norton-antivirus "After a few years on hiatus, Symantec's standalone antivirus is back." The video makes mention of network IDS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwWJ-OcRFRo I was going to open a new thread on this, but I figured why not bury it here? Edit: IMHO, it should be free.
