What? I have used the free version for over a year and never get a pop-up? At most I get a windows that shows I can upgrade to a paid version after the program got upgraded.
Really weird. I'm on my laptop running the newest Avast Free version daily and never pop-ups. Maybe it's a regional thing? Might be that some countries get pop-ups to upgrade and some not? I can't remember changing any settings to get rid op pop-ups either.
Interesting that you mention that. I read a while back that most paid Avast Pro subscriptions come from the USA. Can't remember the exact figure but it was like 80-90%. I'm in the USA, so maybe they are trying to squeeze me for cash. Anyway, if I keep getting them daily I will switch to something else.
Interesting. I've installed it so will see what happens. A pop-up a day will see Avast go away. I'll stomach it twice a month. I suspect that as WD improves they will pop-up less and less as it becomes an easier decision for a customer to break the chord.
I could live with this. I am now sat here apprehensively awaiting my first Avast nag to see how intrusive it is. The best nags include information - a link to an interesting article so that I can learn something.
Another popup nag today, so it was uninstalled. If the popups are just targeted at American users, I would resent that.
Whats wrong with a daily popup ? I use it too and have a popup once in 2 or 3 days, so what click this button to close it. Don't forget you have a free product with great detection.
For me, popups seem more frequent just after the yearly registration. The last month I've seen a couple a week. If things hold true to the past I will see fewer popups as year moves along. Last year I didn't see an ad for the final 6 months or so of the registration year.
Avast wants me to install Google Chrome, I think it's time to uninstall Avast. I hate the popups too ...
I have the paid version and it still has pop ups to buy add on programs just too annoying, I didn't pay for an AV to be annoyed...
If you have a paid version of Avast, you can simply turn off the Popups. Avast UI > Settings > Popups > [untick] Show Popup offers for other Avast Products.
I have to say, of all the freebies, I like the overall look & feel of Avast the most. I can't comment on how well it protects. I no longer test on my own, and have to depend on the various agencies for that. I'm hoping using hardened mode/aggressive will keep my family safe. Anyway, other than the occasion popup to upgrade, I like the GUI and the program overall. All the freebies have annoyances, whether it is a launcher, shady practices, popups, or just the way the program works. I install only the file & web shields with Avast, and they seem to provide a solid setup.
You can block Avast popups, ads, upgrade tab, etc... It doesn't affect protection or cloud connection. Online help file in the GUI will not be available. 1/ Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Firewall -> Advanced settings 2/ Outbound Rules -> New Rule -> Program -> Next 3/ “This Program Path” -> Browse... -> to Avast install directory (usually C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast) -> choose AvastUI.exe -> Next 4/ Block the connection -> Next -> Next 5/ "Name:" -> Type AvastUI -> Finish You can do similar steps if you use other third-party firewalls. Make sure you block AvastUI.exe Copied from the post by a member Evjl's Rain on malwaretips.
Maybe you have silent/gaming mode enabled? By the way, eventhough popups can not be disabled, they can be set to 1 sec in Free version, default is 20.
I have never enabled silent-mode. The lack of pop-ups for some has been discussed and it could be geographic related. I live in Holland and no pop-ups on any of kind on my PC's.
How is Avast doing it these days , it was great antivirus but then it got a bad bloaded antivirus. Is Avast doing better now?
