Ida no longer works for Zemana and Emre is very busy. You can ask me anything and everything.

Send me your email via PM and I will check it first thing tomorrow.

Using Zemana AntiMalware 2.30.2.37 portable on Windows 7. Smart scan on previous versions would scan around 10,700 objects in less then two minutes. Latest version smart scan is now scanning 125,764 objects. I terminated scan after 13.5 minutes. It is now scanning all my photos (TIFF and CR2 Raw). They need to add a shorter scan or an option to limit objects scanned in smart scan mode.

Same here using installer paid version on XP and Win 7. Smart scan.

Tried selecting and then unselecting smart scan in case it was just a 'toggle' issue. It's as if smart scan isn't there anymore.

Perhaps TwinHeadedEagle may be able to shed some light on this.

I'm using the installed Premium version 2.30.2.37 and I also noticed an increase in the number of items scanned from around 6,000 previously to 80,000 now although the scan time was still only 5 minutes.

Well it doesn't scan faster for me ..around 11/12 minutes now, before it was around 2/3 minutes.

Perhaps it is only blazing fast on Windows 10 :)

It took over 6 minutes to do a scan on my SSD, compared to a minute or so in older versions. If I had a hard drive, rather than a SSD, I presume that the scan would have taken much longer. However the amount of software you've got installed will have a big affect on the scan time. I've got many programs installed which will have slowed won the scan. It reminds me of Malwarebytes, as its scan times these days are also much longer than what they once were, and even a Hyper Scan is nowhere near a quick as it once was.

I'm running Windows 10, so I don't think it's an operating system issue, but probably has more to do with the amount of files it has to scan on your system.

In every PC, the amount of files to scan remains the same (with ZAM 2.21 installed or with ZAM 2.30).
Imo, the changes is scan time are due to the new engine in ZAM 2.30 (Scanning engine rewritten), not due to the amount of files.

anon - Do not agree. Nothing has changed on my computer yet the number of files scanned using the "smart scan" mode has increased by a factor of 12x. I have reported this to Zemana.

I can't comment specifically on v2.21 vs v2.30, but ZAM now does scan a lot more files than older versions did. On my system doing a Smart Scan, scans well over 400,000 files.

    Exactly.

When I wrote "amount of files to scan remains the same" I was meaning the total files on hard drive, not the amount of files scanned by ZAM (which increased as I said due to the new engine).

Here are the stats on my machine:

    2.21

    Zemana AntiLogger 2.21.204.465 (Installed)
    Scan Type : Smart Scan
    Duration : 2m 16s
    Scanned Objects : 17851

    2.30

    Zemana AntiLogger 2.30.204.37 (Installed)
    Scan Type : Smart Scan
    Duration : 1m 2s
    Scanned Objects : 142641

Now it is scanning more files, but much faster. Scanning speed depends on the performance of your computer and the number of files you have on your system.

The Smart Scan time has tripled for me due to many more file being scanned. In my case there are 429,161 objects scanned, so I can understand why the scan takes over 6 minutes to complete. However, in a few more years, I can only presume it will be much longer, as by then there may be a few more times as many files to scan, considering I keep installing new software, and am not going to do a clean install any time soon.

I just tried to do a Deep Scan, for the first time. I've only ever run Smart Scan, as I've felt no need to ever do a Deep Scan, but I wanted to see how much longer it would take compared to a Smart Scan. However, it appears to hang when scanning ntdll.dll. Zemana was still using CPU time, but still scanning the same file after ten minutes. I stopped the scan, and Zemana did terminate the scan right away, which would indicated it had not hung, but it seemed strange that it was stuck on a single file for 10 minutes.

This is already a bit OT, actually:
On my ZAL's Smart Scan, the time required doubled, instead of cutting the time by half just like with TwinEagleHead's.
Before: approx. around 1 min. with fewer files scanned
After: approx. around 2 min. with more files scanned.

Anyway, this doesn't really matter to me, as long as it doesn't take so much time scanning. Two minutes is still very acceptable. :)

On Win 7 it scanned 62207 items in 11minutes.

So I excluded EEK and EAM to speed things up.

It now takes 13 minutes :D

I used to have it set for a scheduled scan at boot but will give that a miss for now.

At Zemana, we constantly work to improve scan speed and not to make scan time longer. Any kind of detection that we create is aimed not to make scans longer but the opposite. That is one of main Zemana principles, clean your computer in just a few minutes, no matter how badly infected.

    Hi
After installing the latest version of ZAL my smart scan has gone from 2mins to 8mins and the number of scanned items has gone from 12,000 to 80,000.
    I am running Windows 7 32bit
I presume this is down to the rewritten engine? Strange that the increase in scan time does not seem to have affected those running Windows 10 to the same degree.

No idea why it would take over 13 minutes for you @stapp
    It seems fishy to me.
